Kerry Hires Joe Lockhart to Combat Swift Boat Veterans
MSNBC 'First Read' Political Insider Memo ^ | 8/20/04 | Liz Wilner

Posted on 08/20/2004 7:41:15 AM PDT by gopwinsin04

The Los Angeles Times notes this morning that he Kerry campaign has hired former Clinton White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart and Joel Johnson, a lobbyist who worked for President Clinton to help respond to the Swift Boat Veteran's attacks.

Group officials who discuss strategy on condition of anonymity said that the anti-Kerry group plans to hammer the Democrat for his war claims and protests after he left Vietnam, especially his claims that US soldiers committed war crimes.

The group are also arranging local veterans to criticize Kerry when he vists their states.

Aides said Kerry has been flooded with calls from concerned veterans, and a CBS poll released last night showed the senator losing significant support amongst those who served in the armed forces.

Instead of rebutting each charge, Kerry blamed Bush for sanctioning such highly personal attacks, though there is no evidence that the presdients campaign has any direct connections to the anti-Kerry group.

"I wasn't clear - I think that the Swift Boat vets will have to file the lawsuits to clear their names from the DNC smear machine that is going to get uglier and uglier."

Ahhh....yes, the "brown book" campaign....but I think support is building to the point where there's no way these guys will be hung out to dry...........I think enough people will be behind them that the DNC smear machine could be greeted with protesters, with torches, on their front lawns.........I've crossed my fingers, bought the book, sent a check and emailed anyone and everyone I know with supporting articles and documents!!

"Mr. Peach called me in to see the ad and I missed it; out watering flowers. Dang it all."

HA!HA! I had just stepped in from doing the same thing when the ad came on......oh well, there is a "higher" calling than being at a keyboard....for me, the garden is it.......it helps to be able to walk away from all the stuff that raises your blood pressure....no phones, no email...just admire Nature's beauty........prune some roses, scratch in the dirt!!!

Oh..................before I forget.............

NEW SWIFT BOAT AD

While I won't give her credit for a stellar intellect she must have had this turd checked out before marrying him and knew what he was all about.

She just chose to ignore it because she thought she could ride his wrinkled treasonous ass into the White House ala hitlery.

Just a thought.

I don't know which is worse: Texans or Republicans. Why can't the Swift Boat Vets get their funding from reputable sources, like kerry does? /sarcasm

Nah... to late for Hillary. The party would completely implode in an internal battle to replace Kerry at this late stage. But I think I'm becoming more convinced that Dubya is going to win this thing going away.

I don't know, kjam22. During the "will she run in 2004 or 2008" threads there would always be a poster or two who'd say she had it in the bag for 2004. Absolutely, she had it in the bag. Pre-convention, before Kerry got the nod, "brokered convention" was flying around. I'm wondering if the internal battle has been there for some time (old school-Kerry/Kennedy;new school-Clintons/McAuliffe) and just simmering as HRC, WJC, etc hijack the Democrat Party. I'm starting to lean towards those few posters who said she had it in the bag. The Kerry campaign is disastrous for the Dems and someone's gotta be a hero.....I really slept very poorly...

Kerry could not afford to focus his campaign on his senate record, most of the votes he needed to cast couldn't be phoned in from some ski slope. So he focused on his service record.

Must be hard for a worthless opportunist to pick which of his actions are the less reprehensible for public consumption.

Kerry would be a phone in President, MIA, on one of his vacations. The ad's against him are working, his numbers are dropping among independents and vets.

I saw the writer Dobbs, of the Washington Post ,on Lou Dobbs (no relation), and he said he's been trying to get Kerry's military records for months.

re: Something tells me the Swift Vets are up to the task.

How poetic that the swifties (who put their lives on the line to keep Communism from spreading throughout Asia) are called upon 30 years later to keep a man they deem fraudulent from government most powerful country in the world.

Wasn't there an old Walter Brennon movie called 'The Over the Hill Gang Rides Again" ???

Brazos!

It would not have surprised me to see the beast make a last minute play for the spot... but last minute was before the convention nominated Kerry. I think if Kerry pulled out of the thing now... you'd end up with a number of dem candidates on the ballot and none of them in all of the states. Unless it defaulted to Edwards.
