Depends where you live....in the good sized city 60 miles away its picked up over the last two years...

IN the small rural community where I now live (SW WI.)...its worse...three of the top ten companies
have laid everybody off and relocated to Mexico...

Its tough for people to sell their houses when so many are laid off and without replacement jobs there are few buyers...

imo

Better or worse than what?

Better than it was in 2001? Definitely.

The employment end is not much better, and Bush would be well advised to USE HIS BULLY PULPIT to get after the jobs outsourcing robber Barron's, or is he totally in the pocket of business interests?? If I were him, the first thing I would have done is sign an executive order that any companies contracting with the federal government cannot use foreign outsourced labor to fulfill government contracts, because we now have the sorry spectacle of working taxpayers tax receipts going not to US citizens but flowing out of the country to god-knows-where... Shameful!!!

So let's see...you would rather have your tax paying dollars wasted on bloated, wasteful unions that have employees that can show up to work drunk, literally, and not be fired.

What you are basically advocating is that Bush open up the furnace and start shovelling money into probably the most bloated, unproductive sector of society.

Instead, what he is doing, which seems prudent to me, is looking for the most qualified, competitive bid and handing the work out to that bidder.

Yet another poorly worded poll.

If you ask someone "do you think the economy is getting better, worse, or is staying the same?" you are asking to take into account everything they hear and read in the news (doom and gloom kind of stuff) and they will vote accordingly.

If I approached the news uncritically, I would say "it is getting worse" simply because of the volume of news that says that it is. After all, the homeless have once again become a problem lately and everyone is having their jobs shipped overseas. /sarcasm

A better poll is to ask the voter whether his or her economic status has improved, gotten worse, or has stayed the same.

Did I say the word """"UNION""" in my post? Did I advocate hireing more govt workers? All I said is that contractors who work for the govt should hire American citizens instead of foreign outsourced labor,,,who has a problem with that?

BTW,learn to read the words and not read things into someones posts here..

I don't like to see my tax money wasted on those outfits either, but the bigger problem is that the skills and infrastructure go overseas. If it goes to China, we are aiding our future enemy.

There was a movie some years ago called "The Second American Civil War" and they had a scene when American tanks couldn't move. No parts were available as they had to get them from overseas.
Not too far off the mark.
