(CNSNews.com) - "There is no evidence the president's campaign has direct connections to the anti-Kerry veterans group," the Washington Post reported on Friday. The newspaper notes that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth Campaign is hurting Kerry's candidacy: His campaign has been "flooded with calls from concerned veterans," the Washington Post said, and a CBS poll shows Kerry has lost "significant" veterans' support.
The Washington Post also points out that Kerry has struck back at Swift Boat Veterans for Truth -- without addressing some of the accusations.
"Instead of rebutting each charge, Kerry blamed Bush for sanctioning such highly personal attacks, the Washington Post said.
According to the newspaper, the Kerry campaign wants to convince voters that the Bush White House -- and Karl Rove -- are behind the Swift Boats' campaign, "at least in spirit." But the newspaper adds, "Many of the veterans affiliated with the anti-Kerry effort do not have obvious relationships with the Bush campaign, nor do some of its donors.""
There is a NYT article this morning that is supposed to nuke SBV4T. Have you seen/posted it?
Yes, it was posted on FR this morning.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1195315/posts
Kimo Williams, a Vietnam vet and executive director of the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum in Chicago, said he's been waiting for Kerry to fight back but
that exaggeration was part of the culture in Vietnam. "You'll hear this from any veteran who is upfront about it: When we were there, we were always trying to find
ways to take advantage of our situation," he said. "So when I look at John Kerry and the situation he was in, it's easy for me to say, 'OK, he may have done that.'
But I don't see anything wrong if Kerry not so much falsified it but exaggerated it to make sure he got his Purple Heart."
Other local veterans are far more skeptical and say they will never forgive Kerry for joining the anti-war movement when he got back to the United States.
"I'm a Democrat, but without a doubt, I'm voting for Bush," said Thomas Maher, a Vietnam vet from Mount Greenwood who has never voted Republican in a
presidential race. "If everything he did in Vietnam was totally correct, God bless him. . . . But you don't speak out against your own country."
Dennis Rombola, a Streamwood bus driver who was a gunner on Army helicopters in Vietnam, said he just doesn't believe Kerry.
"I got hit by some shrapnel and never took a Purple Heart," Rombola said. "To me, I think Kerry's a phony."
Slap the NY Slimes around by BUYING the book this weekend. Hannity said that for a book to get on the NY Slimes bestseller list, you can't buy it at a discount store.
This article looks pretty good........ is this edited out of 1000 other nasty things they have to say about the Swifties?
This statement in the article makes the point. If Kerry could rebut the claims he would!
Typical JF'nKerry, liberal, RAT bastard tactic.
Having no excuse for the inexcusable, he attacks at random to evade the truth.
Yes, the WP article sticks these nifty tidbits in among lots of negative stuff.
"When the facts are against you, argue the law. When the law is against you, argue the facts. The facts and the law are against you, trash the witnesses."
By trashing the veterans instead of rebutting the facts, Kerry effectively admits that the facts (the truth of what really happened) and the law (that there is no real connection between Bush and the Vets) are against him.
According to the WP article, "The dispute is unlikely to end soon. John O'Neill, a member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and author of the anti-Kerry book "Unfit for Command," said the group raised nearly $500,000 from 10,000 donors in recent days."
I'd be interested in seeing that- the stuff I've read so far is just more name-calling, smears, & lies from Kerry & company.
As much as I am against this campaign to show Kerry as the smug, elitist liar he is concerning his VN record, it seems to be at least making Vets pay attention.
Wrong response from Kerry.
The charges made by the Swift Boat Veterans must be true.
Otherwise the Kerry Machine would attack the facts, not the messenger.
Thx k and GSG.
katt, thanks for the link... I have read the article previously. Darned if I see any "nuke."
Just saw it- duh!
