Shays: Bush Ought to Denounce Vietnam War Group's Attacks on Kerry

U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays believes President Bush ought to denounce attacks by a group of Vietnam War veterans against Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, USA Today reported.

The newspaper quoted Shays, who faces Westport Democratic First Selectwoman Diane G. Farrell in the November election, as saying: "If you served in Vietnam, you're an American hero. Case closed."

He added, "I just don't think that that's how the president is going to win or lose."

Shays, in an interview, said there's no shortage of "more meaningful and credible criticism" to aim at Kerry, such as his 1991 vote against a resolution authorizing force to get Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait, USA Today said.

"If you served in Vietnam, you're an American hero. Case closed."

And Kerry certainly didn't believe that about his fellow Vets, whom he accused of being guilty of crimes against humanity.

If you came back from Vietnam and headed a group that made propaganda tapes for the enemy, you're no hero:

Propaganda tapes

Once again, showing the GOP members do not know when to keep their damn mouths shut. Did the demos come up with goodie bags for the RINOs? This is a party that refuses to know how to win.

Right on schedule. Next, Chuck Hagle, Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.

"If you served in Vietnam, you're an American hero. Case closed"

So the Swift Boat Vets who oppose Kerry are American heroes and Rep. Shays believes that American heroes shouldn't be questioned as to their conduct. So I'm sure he'll now call on the DNC and its subsidiaries such as the Pimes and Tost to stop attacking the Swift Boat Vets.

Frankly, it's none of President Bush's business what an independent group says or thinks about Kerry's service. Why should he condemn something when he's in no position to confirm or deny what they are saying.

Personally, I'm counting on the mainstream media to investigate this and find out the truth (sarcasm).

Shays' position and remarks causes me to be suspicious. What is he hiding? Is he fearful of some investigation into his past?

Something from Shakespeare: 'Me thinks through protesteth too much...'

I don't see in Shay's bio that he was in Vietnam, so where does he get off criticizing the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth...by his own measure?

He's fearful of losing his seat to a Dem challenger as the article implies.

I was wondering the same thing earlier today. It seems many Pubbies are out defending the Kerry side.

Someone wrote a few weeks ago that the Pubbies (especially Senators) are so fearful of upsetting the Dems and then losing seats and becoming the minority party. It seems they are selling their souls early to avoid some future potential political backlash.

Chrissy Shays ought to take a midol, sip on a LARGE mug of chamomile tea, and get a BALL IMPLANT.

Wow - The left is desperate to shut those vets up. Nothing has worked and all that's left is to try to bully Bush into doing it for them. _______________________________________
