Veteran shares perspective on Kerry story [Cambodia redux]
The Augusta Free Press ^ | 08/19/04 | Doug Regelin

Posted on 08/19/2004 8:48:10 PM PDT by Interesting Times

The new version of Sen. John Kerry's Cambodia experience is also not true.

Sen. Kerry patrolled from An Thoi on the 94 boat and also from Cat Lo on the 44 boat. There was no way to enter Cambodia from the An Thoi patrol area. That patrol area started at the coastal fishing village of Ha Tien and ran parallel to the Cambodian border, but there was no way into Cambodia. Any good map will show this to be true.

From the Cat Lo patrol area around Sa Dec, it would have been possible for a boat to enter Cambodia, except there were concrete barriers, river-assault group boats and PBRs guarding the entrance.

Anyone entering Cambodia at that location would have known with complete certainty what they were doing.

It just never happened. Sen. Kerry is not being truthful, and it can be easily proven by interviewing his own selected band-of-brothers. The claim that there were so many rivers and canals, and that no one knew where they were, is ludicrous. We had detailed maps and overlays that showed everything right down to movements in fishing stakes.

I drove a swift boat for a year in 1969, and I still remember all the patrol areas.

Also, a single swift boat never went anywhere alone. It would have been way too dangerous. A second cover boat would have gone along. That means the crew of that boat would have also known they were going into Cambodia. Where are the crew members and officer of the cover boat?

Again, it just didn't happen.

Why has the old media let this slide? Sen. Kerry will say anything if it suits his personal political agenda. His Cambodia lie is just like his atrocity lie when he came back. They served his political purpose when he said them, but neither is true.

I'm not a member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which can be verified. I also will not vote for either Bush or Kerry because I'm anti-war. I don't think we should be in Iraq. However, I am for the truth.

I think the Kerry folks pulled back today knowing the NYT hit piece was coming. IMHO, the article was poorly written citing several quotes without context and using rather twisted logic to attempt to connect the Swifties to the Bush Administration. I expect to see several of the Swift Boat folks out front and center placing the quotes in context and thus pretty much neutralizing the article.

This post nails down the falsity of Kerry's "Christmas in Shambodia" claim, even as it shifts. The point made here, that these Boats would not go on patrol alone because that would be too dangerous, is also essential to my take on related aspects of Kerry's dangerous four-month tour.

I called Border's Book store today to inquire about "Unfit for Command."   They said, that they, along with all book stores have been overwhelmed.   Moreover, Regency Publishers are working overtime to meet the demand for the book.   So yes, "Hanoi John" has his problems.   Of course, expect a negative spin from the media to cover up for an American Traitor.

I was glad to hear on Nightline that the Swifties have a new ad coming out. No doubt it will refute Kerry claims that he hardly knew them, ect. - re: his own website showing their picture!

Kerry is as big a liar as Clinton, he's just not good at it. He doesn't think ahead. He's like a five-year-old caught in the cookie jar each time he's caught, and unlike Clinton, hasn't taken the time to figure a prompt and convincing lie in advance. Clinton would not have been so stupid as to use the Swifties photo on his website - this takes away Kerry's deniability, and I bet it's mentioned in the next Swiftie ad. I'm sending them another $25.

OK, let's say it wasn't 100% unfair. Very slanted, ect., but was obliged to include some damaging clips, for anyone fairminded enough to consider if they might be true.

"As everyone must surely know by now, John F. Kerry came on board GRIDLEY as a boot Ensign when we returned from our 1967 Westpac Cruise. He remained on GRIDLEY through the 1968 cruise. Politics aside, shipmates of the time who have read TOUR OF DUTY, the authorized campaign biography, will have something to say about the chapter on GRIDLEY."

READ ALL OF THIS!!!!

Why has the old "MSM" media let this slide?

Is that a trick question? ;-)

They (Swift Boat Vets) have been on top of this from the git-go!! I was really happy to see that when the stuff started really hitting the fan, they were releasing statements refuting any lies and half-truths within HOURS. These guys are NOT backing off......they have truth on their side!!!!!!!

Thanks to 68-69 Tonkin for the link. I just read it and I hope everyone else will too. It is both honest and devastating. I think Kerry's worst nightmare is coming true. His elaborately constructed phantasy - a big lie with enough truth to make it plausible - is coming unglued.

From comments by Andrew Ferguson to make David's little boy lose more sleep...

About Kerry:

*snip*

He has slid from one side of this formula to the other as the situation requires, and only a few of his hostile fellow veterans have been so crude as to point out that, by his own logic, he is a war criminal.

"I never wanted to be a professional veteran," he protested to a reporter during one of his early political campaigns. But of course that's what he's been, unavoidably.

In his public presentation, he is a dour, pompous, and unlikable man.

His political career--and his success during this presidential campaign, when his fellow Democrats ache for a candidate who will appear strong on "national security"--is unimaginable without his extraordinary service in Vietnam.

God knows, and experience proves, that he won't shut up about it. It has become his own personal bloody shirt.

Kerry's eagerness to bring up his military service at every opening strikes many people, including all Republicans, as opportunism, as just one more instance of an ambition that will exploit anything on the path to its own fulfillment.

But there are other possibilities, if we can briefly extend him the benefit of the doubt. It might also be the way a reflective man responds to an experience he's never quite been able to get over.

And because he can't quite get over it, he doesn't want us to either. This may be narcissism, but it's not opportunism, necessarily, and in any case it's perfectly understandable, and probably not worth criticizing. (Oh, I think it is <<<---my comment)

Brinkley writes at great length about Kerry's antiwar activism and only a bit less about his later political career.

For anyone interested in these phases of the story, however, "Tour of Duty" is nearly worthless. His devotion to Kerry is simply too large. More at the link

Thanks for the ping Maeve. Having read Unfit for Command I think that everytime he opens his mouth he's lying.
