He's still from Jersey, but Gov. Piscopo?
New York, NY, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Former "Saturday Night Live" regular Joe Piscopo is mulling a run for governor of New Jersey, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
Piscopo may be best known for his SNL character, Paulie the chemical plant worker, who asked everyone in sight, "I'm from Jersey... Are you from Jersey?" But for governor?
The comic confirmed to the News "some prominent business guys" are trying to persuade him to run for governor. Piscopo would not identify them but said, "They've suggested I run as an independent. They have the financing, but they've assured me I wouldn't be beholden to them."
Piscopo, a lifelong Democrat, said his party had been embarrassed by Gov. Jim McGreevey's disclosure that he had a gay affair with a man he placed on the state payroll, although the man denies they were lovers.

And it should stay that way. New Jersey would go from a laughing stock to a laughing stock...
"You shouldn't hang me on a door, Johnny. My mother hung me on a door once. Once."
"It's an 88 Magnum- it shoots through schools."
I've always read that piscopo was a republican.
well I have to take that back - people on FR posted that he's a republican, but a little searching showed him identifying himself as a democrat.
I guess Joe piscopo would be a good candidate for NJ governor- it's not like he has anything better to do.
Joe Piscopo looks too much like Al Franken to suit me.
Dont know where you read that, but he most certainly isnt a republican he is a lefty for sure, at least thats what he more or less told cavuto during the dnc convention.

Actually, I read an interview with him where he described himself as a "conservative democrat". I remember it because you never hear those two words together.
Who's got it?
McGreevey - fargin sneeky bastage!
I liked the newspaper headline they showed - "Roman Maroni Deported to Sweden - Says He's Not From There!"
An underrated movie in my opinion.
Nowadays, Piscopo's name seems to elicit groans from fellow SNLers, and I think I know why. When Hollywood writers went on strike years ago and shut down production of just about everything, the first one to go back on to talk shows was Piscopo, who did his Fat Boys spoof from the Miller Lite commercials for Johnny Carson. The strike ended shortly thereafter, and I think that there were many who blamed Piscopo for all their demands not being met.
Later, Piscopo revealed that he had cancer. He probably couldn't afford not to work much longer. I don't know for sure -- nobody wants to ask him about it.
Piscopo was the co-star of one of the stupidest movies ever, Dead Heat, in which he was a cop teamed with his dead partner (played by Treat Williams, who might have taken this stupid role to support a cocaine habit), whose body rotted throughout the film. The most memorable scene is when Williams and Piscopo are attacked by dozens of re-animated chicken carcasses in the kitchen of a restaurant (I am NOT making this up). It was a train wreck of a film that makes you wonder why they went through the trouble of finishing it.
Plus he divorced his wife and married his teenage babysitter - he fits right in with the Jersey DemocRats.
So now we know what became of Joe Piscopo. Every now and then I wondered.
That's a real knee-slapper. Nothing embarrasses a 'Rat.
Perhaps he would make a better governer, at least he knows "what this son-of-a-batchin' country was found on".
I thought he od'ed on steroids!
LOL. If he should win that would be the final nail in the coffin for Jersey's self-esteem. Calif. has Arnold. Jersey has Piscopo.
