New at SwiftVets.com (re: enemy fire during Rassmann incident)

August 19, 2004 -- Posted Swift Veteran statements in response to today's Washington Post article by Michael Dobbs, Records Counter a Critic of Kerry. Dobbs attempts to make a case that there was enemy small-arms fire during the Rassmann incident for which John Kerry obtained a Bronze Star, based on the writeup for Larry Thurlow's own Bronze Star. But who wrote the action report for the event? And why no bullet holes in any of the boats?

Oliphant looked visibly shaken during most of it.

It looked to me like the old queen was wetting his pants during the entire exchange.

That's what I figured. So do these reports not exist? Surely since a few of the boats hit mines, they would have been damaged. Where are those reports? That should help dispel the firefight then.

You sure they boats wouldn't deflect AK-47 rounds btw.? Doesn't makes sense to send a boat that will surely take fire into an area where it can be sunk with small arms fire.

Hear what Gardner (one of Kerry's crewmen) says about Kerry:

Gardner- Member of Kerry Swiftboat Full Bronze + PH + SCambodia Story

AUDIO BLOWS KERRY'S LIES OUT OF THE WATER.

KERRY OVERWROTE HIS AFTERACTION REPORT EMBELLISHING HIS REPORT FOR HIS SUPERIORS.

HE GOT BRONZE STAR AND PURPLE HEART DUE TO SELF INFLICTED WOUNDS.

I hadn't heard this; Gardner came back from DC with a situation report (SITREP) from the Navy archives for the incident with the sampan. Kerry declared there were 4 enemy who "jumped off the boat and ran ashore" in addition to those KIA. He also declared the small boat (30' long canoe like) had 5500 LBS of contraband (meaning the weight of a good size automobile).

Gardner has some kind of SitRep [Situation Report] that the Kerry supporters haven't seen. This SitRep apparently contradicts Kerry regarding the shooting of the family on a boat. The Rassman Bronze star/PH incident had to generate more than 1 SitRep - there were 5 swifts there - and these guys have the documents to prove that Kerry filed false reports.

Gardner: There is absolutely no way Kerry went up the river into Cambodia, because the river had barriers in it that made entry impossible.

Kerry is screwed.

"My name is Steve Gardner. I served in 1966 and 1967 on my first tour of duty in Vietnam on Swift boats, and I did my second tour in '68 and '69, involved with John Kerry in the last 2 1/2 months of my tour. The John Kerry that I know is not the John Kerry that everybody else is portraying. I served alongside him and behind him, five feet away from him in a gun tub, and watched as he made indecisive moves with our boat, put our boats in jeopardy, put our crews in jeopardy... if a man like that can't handle that 6-man crew boat, how can you expect him to be our Commander-in-Chief?"

I think you just about nailed it.

It's the just about that bothers me. I honestly want to know if this is what occurred. Where am I right and where am I wrong? :o)

Bravely, bold Sir Kerry rode forth from Camelot
He was not afraid to die, oh, brave Sir Kerry.
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Kerry.

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken,
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Kerry,

His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off>br> And his penis-

Brave Sir Kerry ran away.
Bravely ran away, away.

When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, Brave Sir Kerry turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.

Bravely taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.
Bravest of the brave, Sir Kerry.

I know it's not a draw. Even if I were so inclined to make that conclusion an honest journalist would look for other verifiable facts, such as the injury you note.

When I go to Swiftvets.com and click on where to dontate I get:

Not Found The requested URL /swift/ccdonation.php was not found on this server.

It works for me, both from the shell page with the video and the donation link. Are you still getting that error?

I sure wish they'd take AMEX in addition to Vias and MC.

After a couple of weeks of persistent effort, AMEX now supports donations to SwiftVets.com...

Just out of curiosity, how can they remember if their were bullet holes in the boats? 1. would bullets have penetrated anyway and 2. why would somebody remember that (unless their was a record of such).

Damage reports. If the boat comes back with holes in it, there's paperwork involved.

And not a single person was shot.

More to the point, you have 5 boats that are each about 50 feet long sitting out there. You could hit one from the shore with a rock...

AND, he was off duty, and on his way to have a cold beer with a buddy.

Pretty close, I think. Add that the Swifts fired at both banks to suppress possible enemy fire as Kerry accelerated down yon river. When it was clear that nobody was shooting back, it got quiet and Kerry apparently decided it would be a good time to go back and see how his "brothers" were getting along...

"I can't believe what I just saw matthews do. He created this whole false issue: Should Bush be allowed to use these charges in the campaign - and then used that as the entire basis to make the point he wanted to make (even though Thurlow wasn't taking the bait like he expected). Who even said Bush wanted to use the issue? What does that matter?"

What Matthews was also doing was eating up the clock. The more he talked about baloney, the less time Thurlow had to get in any real information or say his piece. Old trick.

Question:

Why was Kerry the first to pick Rassmussan out of the water? His swift boat was the only boat to flee the scene. He had to come all the way back before someone else would grab this guy from the water?? Rassmussan in the Kerry commercial says Kerry dragged him out of the water under enemy fire... no bullet holes on any of the boats and you have the majority of the soldiers saying there was no enemy fire. The shots he heard were from the swift boats themselves.... I just want to know how Kerry got to this guy before anyone else.... anyone know?

Swift vets respond to today's attempt by the Washington Post to patch up John Kerry's leaking credibility

It will be interesting to watch them spin that into the boat had a hole in it to make it leak.
