ASTORIA, Ore. -- Former Vice President Al Gore was cited for speeding as he drove a rented car to visit family on the coast, authorities said.
Gore, who was alone, was issued a $141 ticket for driving 75 mph on state Route 26 in the northwest corner of the state, police said. The speed limit is 55.
Gore was issued the ticket Aug. 3 at 12:37 p.m., said Lt. Dale Rutledge, spokesman for the Oregon State Police.
The trooper who stopped Gore did not recognize him until he furnished his license, Sgt. Andrew Merila told KATU-TV.
The trooper said Gore, who carried Oregon when he ran for president in 2000, was polite throughout the encounter.
Gore has until December to decide whether to fight the ticket.
"They played on our FEARS!!!!"
Does the Toyota Prius even go that fast?? He must have been using his earth killing SUV.
Geez 20 miles over the speed limit here and we'd not be driving for a while...wonder how he got so lucky.
Or else Gore would've had to resort to the "do you know who I am?" card.
Wish he'd mouthed off and gotten a little "stick time."
What a joke!
It was a 4-door 2004 Lincoln.
Guess times are a bit tough when the tax payers aren't footing the bill, eh, al?
Why is the environmentalist king speeding and thus wasting gas?
Ha! He was driving a rented Lincoln!!!
Quick! Get Jesse Jackson on it... Al's been disenfrancised.
It's Bush's fault.
Few things in life easier than speeding on 26 heading out to the coast. I've done it many a time, and missed getting a ticket many a time as well. Plus, the OHP is reknowned for its love of busting out-of-staters and letting Oregon plates speed on past.

You should be more careful not to arrest the Good Reverend Gore.
I have a lot of reasons to hate algore but this ain't one of em. Could happen to any of us. Don't know the road, but wouldn't be surprised if the 55 mph speed limit is ridiculously low, and if lots of other cars were exceeding it.
Mebbe algore had just drunk a lot of iced tea and was in a hurry to get to a roadside rest stop?
