THE RELEVANT NAVY RECORDS:
National Archives and Records Administration/ U S Navy records ^

Posted on 08/19/2004 7:28:40 AM PDT by Vn_survivor_67-68

“The staff of military personnel of the Classified Operational Archives created an arrangement system based on the Navy's command structure going from the President, fleets, forces, type commands, shore establishments, individual ships, non-Navy commands, non-US commands, to individual personnel. Within each section, the records are arranged alphbetically by the name of the originating command. All of the documents from one command are arranged chronologically by the date of the document. This system of arrangement was used for the war diaries, action reports, and operation plans received by the Chief of Naval Operations during World War II. From the beginning these records were intended for eventual transfer to the National Archives. During 1996, the Operational Archives Branch transferred these collections to the National Archives and Records Administration new facility at College Park, Maryland.” http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/org10-1.htm

Here is what I believe is the proper records group to discover the truth: http://www.history.navy.mil/ar/charlie/coastal12.htm

This page lists various records collections, including the one directly above: http://www.history.navy.mil/ar/recs.htm

One must understand what types of records are at the St Louis Military Personnel Records Center vs the National Archives.

Army and AF unit records are at Suitland.....Naval unit records are at another location (see above).

The UNIT records will expose the relevant truth, NOT the 201 files and medical records that are kept at MPRC St Louis.

The after-actions, recommendations, ships log, etc are not part of individual records.....they are in the unit records......definitive facts and evidence over actual signature blocks are what is necessary to put all of this into perspective........I trust the Swiftmen and honest media are working on this already, but have yet to see an indication of such posted anywhere. Please forward this info to assets likely to use it poste haste.....

Good post. The Army and Air Force records have been moved to Archives II at College Park. The recommendations for awards and awards citations for individuals are scattered throughout, though most are in St Louis.

Here is a post from August 11 which sent researchers in the direction you have outlined in you post........looks like some of the DEFINITIVE records DON'T need Kerry's signature on a 180 records release form, but can be garnered by the general public by writing - QUICKLY - to the correct archive for copies????????

KERRY, SWIFT BOATS, VIET NAM, THE TRUTH, AND NAVY LOGS

Records of Coastal Division 12,
1967-1970

Historical Note

Costal Division Twelve was originally PCF Division 102. Its primary mission was to interdict ships from North Vietnam and prevent supply offloading in South Vietnam, with the secondary mission of providing gunfire support for ground troops.

PCF Division 102 deployed from Coronado, California, in December 1965 to Subic Bay, Philippines. Then it established a base of operations in DaNang, Vietnam, on 13 January 1966. Soon after, PCF Division 102 participated in Operation Market Time and was part of Task Group 115.1. It patrolled areas, between the DMZ and the southern I Corps boundary, using Swift Boats. On 1 January 1967, PCF Division 102 changed its name to Costal Division Twelve.

In 1967, Costal Division Twelve participated in these operations listed below:

Operation Market Time
Operation DeSoto
Operation Deckhouse VI
Operation Beacon Hill One
Operation Seahawk
Operation Boone
Operation Canyon
Operation Beau Diddley
Operation Beacon Star
Operation Beau Charger
Operation Bear Claw
Operation Bear Bite
Operation Beacon Torch
Operation Dragon Fire
Operation Ballistic Charge
Operation Beaver Cage
Operation Badger Tooth
Operation Fortress Ridge
In addition, Costal Division Twelve formed Costal Division Sixteen, which lasted from 20 June 1967 to 1 November 1967. The Division continued its participation in Operation Market Time through 1968.

The Division's last complete year of operations was 1969. During this year, it trained the Vietnamese for the eventual turnover of Costal Division Twelve to the South Vietnamese Navy. On 1 March 1970, Costal Division Twelve was to be primarily manned and controlled by the South Vietnamese. In the interim, it participated in several operations:

Operation Market Time
Operation Bold Mariner
Operation Sea Tiger
Operation Daring Rebel

Scope and Content Note

This collection is composed of post patrol reports and spot reports. Post patrol reports told of actions taken on individual patrols while spot reports summarized the division's actions on a particular day. In addition, post patrol reports were given to the division while spot reports were sent to the task group.

The collection is arranged in two series. Series I contains post patrol reports. It is arranged first by area patrolled and then by chronological order. Series II contains spot reports. It is arranged only by chronological order.

I think that Washington-based reporters should receive e-mails with the link to this thread........and that we should pray that the dirty tricks division on the DNC hasn't already sent a Sandy Berger clone to remove documents from this record group!

Great idea...................I'm in the Midwest, but I KNOW that the Washington Times is excerpting "Unfit for Command" in three parts......it certainly would make sense that a national newspaper could take advantage of both proximity and experience to get these records, publicly available, to get the information to prove or disprove what we ALL want to know. I also will send this information to my list of media contacts,(asap!!!!)..............and invite anyone who hasn't already to do the same!!!!!! ;^)

I have despised Kerry since 1971, for what he did to the reputation of Vn Vets wholesale......IMO he is WORSE than even Hanoi Jane because he is one of us...........then he threw fuel on the fire in 1992 with regard to the known-alive POW's, with McCains help.

Now......about his being a bemedalled hero.....his dog-and-pony show consists of a dozen, some of which were assigned to his boat(s) for short periods.....I can't help but wonder if this schemer didn't phony up some recommendations for medals and post-action reports for those who served on his boat (perhaps even some NOT on his boat or even in the Navy------Rassman (Army) claims he was the one who recommended Kerry for the Silver).....this might explain the difference between the dozen and the vast majority of those present during the times in question.......of one thing we can be certain-----kerry went to the swiftboat div armed with opportunism.....and if the full truth is documented, he will hopefully bear the stink he has earned in so many ways.

200+ Swiftboat Veterans are not lying in unison-----but a dozen or so might be suffering from a convenient lapse in memory.

You are speaking to the choir................my brother in law returned from Nam in 1969, in a wheelchair, after taking schrapnel in his back. He served proudly and honorably, received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, but came home to jeers and taunts, forever being hung with the baby-killer image that Kerry fostered. He'll never walk again and we just simmer at the Kerry appearances over the years that have touted his trumped up service record after having trashed the 99.9% of the men and women who, like you, served so bravely.
