Group says Jesus Christ would vote Democrat
By Associated Press
AUSTIN, Texas -- Just a few miles from George W. Bush's former office at the state Capitol, a panel of religious experts weighed a question with relevance to many people of faith: How would Jesus vote?
It's a complex topic that can't be boiled down to simple political terms, said religious leaders who attended a Texas Faith Network conference in Austin on Tuesday.
James C. Moore, renowned anti-Bush co-author of "Bush's Brain: How Karl Rove Made George Bush Presidential," drew laughter and applause when he offered his view to the moderate to liberal crowd of about 250 clergy and lay leaders.
"If ever there were a bleeding-heart liberal, it was Jesus Christ," Moore said at Congregation Agudas Achim synagogue. "I think the carpenter from Galilee was the original Democrat."
Many at the conference voiced concerns that the religious right dominates discussions of faith and morality in politics. They complained that issues such as abortion and gay marriage seem to take priority over hunger, corporate crime and even the war in Iraq.
Some research has found that white Christians who attend worship services at least once a week are far more likely to vote Republican, while less frequent worshippers and those who are not religious tend to lean Democratic. Many analysts have criticized Democrats for failing to more effectively reach religious voters.
"The sound bites and the headlines have co-opted people of faith," said the Rev. Tom Heger, pastor of St. John's Presbyterian Church in Manchaca, south of Austin. "It would be a surprise to a lot of folks to discover that there are some very faithful, regular church attendees who aren't going to vote for Bush."
Conservative pastors such as Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson "would have us believe that morality is all about where you stand on abortion, how you treat homosexuals. I think that is simply wrong," said John D. Moyers, senior fellow at the Washington-based Center for American Progress.
I doubt Jesus would be fighting tooth and nail with the ACLU to remove all references to his father from private and public life. Jesus is a Republican.
These RATS are delusional
Hmmm...the Democrat Party has two sacraments: Abortion and Gay Marriage. Somehow I can't picture Jesus voting Democrat.
Yeah. I recall Him saying something about, "Render unto Caesar ..."
Satan was the first democrat.
I saw this somwhere else and thought it appropriate here
Jesus would not Vote Democrate He'd run as a Republican
The media is just so absorbed with the Hate Bush mentality. I am getting so sick and tired of this garbage. This past weekend in the PARADE insert of the Austin Pravda, there was an article about people losing their health care.
One of the couples the article interviewed was from Hutto which is 12 - 15 miles east of IH 35 on hiway 79. That actually runs thru Round Rock and is about 20 miles north of the center of Austin. Instead of saying that Hutto is 30 miles NE of Austin, Tx - most people DO know where Austin Tx is located - the Parade magizine had the following statement.
Hutto, which is about a one hour drive from President Bush's Crawford Ranch.....
That comment made me want to puke.
Satan is Pro-Choice. Kill anyone you want. Reasons are optional.
No - they think Jesus is a RELATIVIST that rejects absolute (self-evident) truth like they do.
Of course, a relativistic worldview positions anyone that thinks like that as a potential threat to our Constitution since our Constitution was only put into place to guard absolute truth.
Does he really think Jesus would support an amoral party of liars, criminals, philanderers, child buggerers, drug abusers, abortionists, queers and athiests? Not to mention a party that hates religion in general and Christianity in particular.
Not an opinion at all. You have bingoed big time. World record time, and spot on. Congratulations, GMTA, I just read the headline in latest posts, and knew this one was about as democrat bogus as bogus gets. Thanks.
No, I'm sure Jesus wouldn't vote Dummycrat...He's just ask God "Do you remember that thing you did with Sodom & Gommorah?"
When one reads this tripe, one is always of the opinion, according to the demorats, that Jesus Christ would endorse abortion and/or partial birth abortion? Think not. Lying? Think not. Infidelity? Think not. Not only are the rats trying to remake the Constitution and indoctrinating our children in schools, they are now attempting to remake Christ's own image and what they think Jesus would do. Pathetic.
I don't see any way he'd be a Dem, though... He was too much for personal accountability.
and what union local do they belong to?
Ultimately, though, Jesus was a monarchist rather than a Republican--with Himself as the Monarch.
What's interesting is that they will ignore eyewitness testimony as to the person of Jesus Christ, or at least edit it, based on their own personal impressions of who Jesus Christ is. Yet most of those Christians who believe they can still hear direct revelation from the Holy Spirit today will not accept such direct revelation without verifying it with The Bible.
But then, the Democrats have never been interested in verifying their facts, have they?
Shalom.
what about "separation of Church and state??" The reason the Dems hate GWB is because he follows the Ten Commandments. The Dems mock every one of them. They don't listen to religious folk now---there is no place for moral people in the Dem party.
Any real bleeding heart liberal would vote for Ralph and not the democrat. If they see it any other way they need new glassess.
Actually this is wrong. Jesus spent time with those open to his message, those that admit that they are sinners and in need of a savior.
