The big story currently in the media that aren't in the practice of turning big stories that aren't their stories into little stories and then dead stories, is the controversy surrounding presidential nominee John Kerry and the group know as "The Swiftboat Veterans for Truth." With Senator Kerry making his military service the centerpiece of his campaign, the 254 ex-servicemen this group comprises have come forward to contradict many of his claims in a book titled "Unfit for Command," by JohnO'Neill and Jerome R. Corsi.
Now, with accusations flying as much as Air Force One and the propaganda as thick as Heinz ketchup, some may not know whom to believe. So let's see if we can winnow out the nonsense and get at the truth.

Unfit for Command [Excerpt] Kerry's testimony to the Fulbright Committee was a carefully orchestrated piece of political theater. Fulbright wanted a presentable,
young Kennedy-esque face to put on the antiwar effort, and Kerry wanted a national forum from which to launch his climb to political celebrity. Ted Kennedy
helped arrange Kerry's testimony with Senator Fulbright at a private fundraising event held at the home of Democratic senator Philip A. Hart of Michigan.

speechwriter noted for his work with Robert Kennedy. Walinsky drafted the speech and coached Kerry on its delivery. The only image Kerry wanted us to see was

The McGovern advice has always seemed wise to me: Fear those that lust after the power of the presidency. I've always thought (perhaps because of so many dramatic portrayals of A. Lincoln in films) that a man should be awed and humbled by the power of the presidency.
This is real,VERY real! Kerry,by his words and deeds is drowning in that blood! And,he is also part of that group,which managed to just about destroy American culture forever,to boot.
Horowitz will be spending the rest of his life trying to repair the damage. I have to believe he is sincerely sorry for his earlier stand and his actions today are helping to fight the radical left.
I especially liked the section on Kerry's lost accent. I was born and brought up in Boston and lived the first 53 years of my life in eastern MA. Although there are at least six identifiable accents in the Boston area (less now because of the homogenization brought on by TV), none are even close to Kerry's poor attempt at a JFK imitation. Even Old Joe, the patriarch, didn't talk like that.
A phoney imitation of a phoney accent.

I agree. And I think that, like Bernard Nathanson on the anti-abortion front, he has valuable insights to offer that could only be gleaned from having been "inside Asia."
Michael Moore is in the same league as those scum of the 60's and 70's, don't you think? The damage his movie has done is incalculable.

Never better stated. I lived in Bezerkley in those days and even was subjected to a nasty encounter with Horowitz in front of the Thousand Oaks Hardware store in 1967 that I will never forget. He was a nasty piece of work.
Yes, but don't forget that he's made a ton of money by switching sides just like Jerry Rubin.
He apparently has brains and energy; he could have done quite well for himself without switching sides (and probably with less aggravation).
