Secret missions in Cambodia
Washington Times ^ | August 18, 2004 | Andrew Antippas

.... I assisted in the delivery of five separate intelligence dossiers in 1968 on the Cambodian base areas through the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh to the Cambodian government. We know the dossiers had a significant impact on the Cambodians, and we began a low level of cooperation as a result of the information.

The Navy kept track of Communist shipping to Cambodia, and the U.S. mission in Vietnam was persuaded that most of the munitions to the Communist forces in the southern half of South Vietnam were delivered through the Port of Sihanoukville.

Line crossers were not generally used in the populated portions of Cambodia that stretched along the borders of Vietnam's III and IV Corps to the Gulf of Siam because of the concern for the impact on civilians that could enrage Prince Sihanouk, the fiery head of state of Cambodia. Intelligence operatives had great trouble penetrating base areas. Even Cambodian provincial officials were prevented from traveling in their jurisdictions where there were base areas.

This was, by the way, one key reason for the overthrow of Prince Sihanouk in March 1970. His seeming acceptance of Vietnamese Communist usurpation of Cambodian land alienated many of his subjects, including the peasants on the border who were shot at by both sides. The Cambodian farmers detested the land grabbing of the Vietnamese. The relative openness of the terrain also militated against armed groups of Americans scouring the countryside.

I believe, based on the foregoing, that I would have been aware of Navy operations inserting agents into the southern parts of Cambodia.

Andrew Antippas is a combat infantry veteran of the Korean War and served eight of his 32 years in the U.S. Foreign Service working on Cambodia.

Kerry is pathetic. If this weren't such a serious issue, it would be funny.

But it's not.

but, but, but, JF'nK told us he spent Christmas in Cambodia.

There are two pathological liars in the news these days.
John "Flipper" Kerry and Scaught Peterson.
One wants to fulfill his date with destiny as President,
and the other just wants a date.

I think we need to help John Kerry out by soundly defeating him in November. The poor man will still think he was president and we'll have the real deal with George W. Bush.

This is turning the world and the truth on its head. None of Kerry's supporter-shipmates can remember if they were doing Christmas in Cambodia?

Kerry Denies Hiding War Records - Mr. Sandusky said it doesn't surprise him that Mr. Kerry may have forgotten where he was then because, like many serving in Vietnam, they didn't want to think about Christmas. "We didn't know where we were at for Christmas," he said. "If [Mr. Kerry] said it, I believe it. I've known John Kerry for 35 years, and he's never lied to me."

[O'NEILL: He was down at SaDec (SaDec Province, in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam), Pat. In his biography entitled "Tour of Duty," all of a sudden, instead of being in Cambodia on December the 25th and 25th - as he had said more than 50 times in articles, and on the floor of the Senate - all of a sudden in his biography "Tour of Duty," he is 55 miles away, at a base, safely ensconsed in a base, writing a letter about sugar plums dancing in his head.] Source

.....But two of Kerry's crewmates -- Wasser and Zaladonis -- both told the Times the boat was in the vicinity of the Cambodian border and fought an engagement with a Viet Cong sampan on Christmas Eve day.

"We patrolled a river on the border," Zaladonis said last week. "Unless I'm out of my mind or mistaken, that river was part of the border."

There are no after-action reports that pinpoint where Kerry's boat was. But a file from Navy archives in Washington obtained by the Times provides support for both sides.

An entry in a monthly summary of engagements for December 1968 reports that on Christmas Eve, "PCF-44 fired on junk on beach. Results: one sampan destroyed."

The entry was made by then-Capt. Roy Hoffmann, the overall commander of Swift boats and now one of Kerry's most vocal critics. The entry contains a coordinate that points to an area about 40 to 50 miles south of the Cambodian border, near an island called Sa Dec.

The entry also notes that the incident took place at around 7 a.m., which would have given Kerry's boat 12 hours to make it to the Cambodian border by nightfall. At a cruising speed of 23 knots, the boat could have covered the distance in about two hours.

This would be consistent with the contention of Kerry spokesman Michael Meehan that Kerry was in Sa Dec but reached the Cambodian border later the same day.

Since the anti-Kerry ad first surfaced, Kerry's crewmates have fanned out in his defense. Along with Rassmann, crewmates Gene Thorson and Del Sandusky, leading petty officer with Kerry on PCF-94, decried the allegations as politically inspired "garbage." Star Tribune via the LA Times

Instead of trying to emulate the Jack Kennedy Navy exploits to gain political cache, I would prefer Q-tip head to emulate the brave and honorable Adm. Michael Borda.

Teresa has probably got workmen busy even as we speak building an exact replica of the White House. That way John F'n can play President all day and at night, treat her like he's the Most Powerful Man in the World. Hubba, hubba!

Kind of like a political Habitrail...

That was the LA Times. Yeah - right, all except for the fact that the Navy's OWN GUNBOATS would have turned back a PCF headed north into Cambodia along the Mekong from the base at Sa Dec. That's why the PBRs were patrolling up there, partly. If Kerry had wanted to get through, they would have had to be under orders to pull back.

No, it's clear that Kerry was over fifty miles from the border on Christmas Eve '68. The guy made it up. And Christmas in a war zone is not something you'd forget. It would sort of be 'seared' into your brain. And he just wanted to remember something more 'exciting', to make a point against Nixon, and later against Reagan, too - sort of an all-purpose lie.

Unless Kerry has done a Sandy Burger on his diary, and he likely has, then that diary might answer a LOT of questions (and raise far too many more about the mind of Kerry, I'm sure).

Kerry's campaign strategy is to deliberately not answer directly to any questions when they are in trouble, LIKE John Kerry on any issue.

If they make the issue more confusing, eventually everyone will lose interest.

In the debates, Bush needs to nail Kerry down with Yes/No answers, and preface each question with if you can't answer Yes or No, you would be a lousy President.
