Hold the bacon
Apart from Hurricane Charley, we've been following a most intriguing story out of Orlando, Fla., where a woman says she was fired from her job because she ate a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich at work, offending Muslim employees.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Lina Morales has filed a religious-discrimination lawsuit against Rising Star Telecommunications, saying she lost her administrative position because she violated a policy banning pork and pork products from the workplace.
She says the rule "constitutes religious discrimination because it is based in Islamic law for the benefit of some Muslim employees who were offended by the presence of pork -- and at the expense of non-Muslims such as Morales, who is Catholic," explains the newspaper.
"I felt I was being discriminated against because I was not Muslim. I wasn't trying to make somebody else eat it," the woman reasons.

LOL. Reminds me of a friend who was having a big family cook-out. At the last minute as people started arriving, her old beat-up gas grill fell apart. She went to the next door neighbors to borrow their's, (a brand new grill) and she said they seemed reluctant at first but then agreed to let her have it.
Only when she was done and was returning the grill did she discover why they were reluctant to let her borrow it. They were an Orthodox Jewish family who kept strict Kosher (she knew they were Jewish but didn't think of the Kosher part.) Instead of giving the "pork laden" grill back to them, she went out and bought them a nice new grill and offered her apologies. All was well.
Sounds like this woman in Orlando wasn't fired for eating bacon, but for refusing (even after having it explained to her) to show some level of respect for other's religious beliefs. It also sounds like they need more than one microwave in their mess area, be it company or personal. There is nothing wrong with making these small accomodations to other's faiths.
What about Cheese.
Everytime we fire up the George Foreman grill to make BLTs for Lunch the Jewish guys across the hall head over for a sandwich.
You fire up the George Foreman grill in your office?
You quoted 'I still care' in your post, not me.
Where have they done so? I haven't heard of any. Most likely, like the rest of us, they'd offer a solution like Post #17 did - get a seperate microwave.
The fact that the bozo that owns the place is a muslim, according to #19, indicates what's in store for anybody once they get on top - "My way or the highway" and tolerance be damned!
Sorry. Fat Fingers.
Upon reflection, doesn't this whole thing remind you of the Fairy Tale Princess who could feel a pea under 17 mattresses? For crying out loud, most dishes are covered when cooked to prevent splatter, so where is the "defilement" except in the users' minds? Must the workplace be pork-free? What about discriminating noses being "offended" by the aroma? Religious foppery, IMHO.
I suspect that if the situation was reversed, the Christian or Jewish employer would be FORCED to get another microwave.
