One day after their first meeting, U.S. Senate hopefuls Barack Obama and Alan Keyes were back on the campaign trail again Monday.
Speaking at a news conference at the Hotel InterContinental in Chicago, Republican Keyes added to his now familiar talking points his stance on slavery reparations.
Prompted by a reporter's question, Keyes gave a brief tutorial on Roman history and said that in regard to reparations for slavery, the U.S. should do what the Romans did: "When a city had been devastated [in the Roman empire], for a certain length of time--a generation or two--they exempted the damaged city from taxation."
Keyes proposed that for a generation or two, African-Americans of slave heritage should be exempted from federal taxes--federal because slavery "was an egregious failure on the part of the federal establishment." In calling for the tax relief, Keyes appeared to be reaching out to capture the black vote, something that may prove difficult to do, particularly after his unwelcome reception at the Bud Billiken Day Parade Saturday...

He has a real "thing" for me, as I am sure you can tell.......LOL.
His voice and vote in the Senate. What does it mean to the dim and RINO crowds if Keyes gets the seat?
I have been calling for EXACTLY this kind of slaev reparations for years here on FR. I support it 100%. I hope Mr Keyes got the idea by reading it here on FR on one of my posts!
This is EXCELLENT - it puts the dems in the natural position of being FOR taxes on a part of their constituency. I like it!
Reparations for slavery granted to people who didn't experience it is a bad idea, period.
I realize how badly you want Alan Keyes to win that senate seat, but please.
Further behind what?
I'm not saying that I want Keyes to lose - I am saying that he is turning into a Pat Buchanan-style nutjob, and has some whacky ideas that border on being racist - but I never said I wanted him to lose...
I wouldn't give that clown the time of day.
If you two can't post without personal attacks, then either stay off the Keyes threads and stop posting to each other completely, or I'll make sure that you can't post at all. Got it? Disagreements are allowed. Personal attacks are not and enough is enough.
One take into consideration, the Times and Tribune in Chgo. are liberal and the slant they put on this is to be taken with a grain of salt.
To see what his stand is on reparations check out RenewAmerica/Keyes Archives:
But the truth of the Civil War is that the terrible price for American slavery has been paid, once for all, by the American people's deliberate acceptance of their duty to pay it when, in God's providence, Southern intransigence brought it due.
Let us resolve, this Easter season, to remember the price America paid for her sin. Let us remember and venerate the high moral purpose of those, including Lincoln, who died to make men free.

So, you admit to being someone to whom the Constitution, and the very principles this nation were founded upon, doesn't mean crap to? Ok.
What is particularly wrong about this plan for slave reparations?
I have called for specifically this plan for years here on FR.
The truth is that african americans have had a unique experience in the USA by nature of slavery. Making amends for that isn't a bad thing. This plan is one I advocate in that it puts the dems immediately in a defensive posture - to argue against the slave reparations federal tax amnesty puts them naturally in the position where they will be FOR taxing a part of their constituency.
Politically that buts them in a bind - I like that.
So you're to blame for this? lol
I like getting crazy in loosing the mind-numbed black voting block away from the Communists, it can be done. I mind you, Communism rooted itself in the American black struggle in the early 1900s...and the mindset is deep, deep and not helped any by their masters the rich, white RAT elitists.
Unbelievable.
I'm still not seeing where that proposal is on the table. All I see is:
"Reparations for African-Americans who can prove slave ancestry, in the form of paying no income taxes..."
What I'm NOT seeing is:
"Reparations for African-Americans who can prove slave ancestry, in the form of paying no income taxes, and in exchange all social programs such as welfare, WIC, AFDC, HUD, Food Stamps, all Affirmative Action programs, etc... will be dismantled and discontinued..."
So, how you can say that all the social programs will end, thereby saving money, is pure speculation with no basis in fact...
As an American I'm for EQUAL rights, not SPECIAL rights. Those who want or those who promise otherwise should be ashamed.
This is exactly right and why I have been calling for this type of slave reparations on FR for several years.
Interesting, but I feel this was a half-baked attempt to solve the problem, and potentially dangerous in that MOST OF US DON'T BELIEVE reparations are in order for way back then.
HELL, we're *PAID* hundreds of billions, IF NOT TRILLION in reparations AFAIC already in handouts and help me programs...and the more that is spent, the worse the plight becomes for all of America.
It's even worse than I thought - You would ignore the constitution, and everything our nation stands for, just for political gain... You scare me, dude.
