Nancy Reagan Needs FreeRepublic's Help!

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals was planning to use Ronald Reagan’s picture in a campaign promoting vegetarianism as a way to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. “Win one for the Gipper” read the ad, which showed a smiling photo of the 40th president. “Animal fats DOUBLE your risk of Alzheimer’s.”

Nancy Reagan not only didn’t send back a letter of support; her people fired off a cease-and-desist letter. “Discontinue any use of President Reagan’s name, signature, quote, image or likeness,” came a missive from Kirby Elizabeth Hanson, Director of Business Development for the Ronald Reagan Foundation. “You have no authority, license or consent from President and Mrs. Reagan (or their legal representatives or licensee) for such use.”

This should be ignored. Peta is just trying to inflame to get free publicity. They are low-lifes who do not merit publicity.

So many these days seem to be doing as much as they can to upset that old lady. Where are her lawyers, let them go after this PETA group.

Agreed, PETA just did this to get their ignorant representatives on the yap-yap political hack shows. Ignore 'em.

Except for her promotion of human stem cells harvested from aborted babies --- using Ronald Reagan is even worse.

I don't think that Reagan's image is protected since he was a public figure. However, email Peta and tell them that if they do not cease and desist, you will go full blown Atkins and eat 3 times as much meat as before!

We can all go hunting and send Peta a box full of cute little dead rabbits and squirrels.

I wonder what the Peta pests would say if stem cells from bunnies held the cure?

Now that could be a trick question for both sides --- could animal stem cells be used? Could someone who suffered from Alzheimers be used to promote that?

I wonder how many of these PETA idiots would deny their own children medical treatment, which was originally discovered through testing on animals.

LOL...I like your idea. IIRC, the surviving spouse has the say over a president's likeness, name or image. The guy who wanted to establish Ronald Reagan University had to drop it when Nancy just said "no".

I don't mean any disrespect, but that's nonsense. Celebrities (politicians included) have a right to control their image. Coca-cola can't just slap a photo of Madonna on their cans to sell more Coke and Peta can't use a photo of Ronald Reagan to promote their message.
