Tropical Storm Earl Discussion Number 12
Statement as of 11:00 am EDT on August 16, 2004
this morning...a U.S. Air Force Reserve unit reconnaissance aircraft was unable to find a closed circulation in Earl. This is also the case with a recent Quikscat pass. So Earl has degenerated into an open tropical wave over the central Caribbean Sea.
The wave is moving west-northwestward at about 22 kt. Surface winds over the central Caribbean Sea associated with the wave are in the 25 to 35 kt range.
Goodbye, Earl...
ping for a bit of good news in the tropics - plus, Hurricane Danielle is turning northwards and should not be a threat to the United States.
And hopefully good riddance.
Good news.
That is good news. I hope it doesn't go the other way after a bit. The fewer hurricanes, the better.
Are 5 hurricanes/tropical storms a lot for this early in the season? Sure seems a lot...
Am I the only one who doesn't know what an open tropical wave is? Is that one step down from a tropical depression?
Still without power in Naples.
An open wave doesn't have a closed circulation, like a depression. So even though the system still has winds of up to 35 knots (tropical storm force), there is no closed ciculation which is how a storm gets stronger and stronger.
an open tropical wave is an area of low pressure in the tropics
a tropical depressing is an area of low pressure with a closed surface circulation.
as for "the less hurricanes the better"...actually not true...tropical systems are a very important part of nature bringing needed water to land.
Bonnie was a tropical depression and degraded a bit before reforming in the Gulf of Mexico. It may not be over for Earl just yet.
even if regeneration occurs.....still not likely to affect the US....this ones going south of the border.
Red
It may be, but...
Earl's gotta die.
I'd be willing to bet a nickle that Earl regenerates by Thursday.
Tis good news, even if he regenerates he appears to be headed to the Yucatan. Did you see last nights discussion?
Tropical Storm Earl Discussion Number 10
Statement as of 11:00 PM EDT on August 15, 2004
if not for the government of Venezuela this probably would have been
the last advisory on Earl...at least for now. The reconnaissance
aircraft scheduled to investigate Earl this evening was denied
access to venezuelan airspace. -snip-
Have you ever heard of them denying recon. airspace before? I thought it was a bit odd.
Probably because of the election - the Chavez folks are getting pissy at the United States.
I am no where near the Gulf of Mexico or the tropics and I have had far more water dumped on me this year than is needed, thank you very much. I didn't buy swampland - but am currently living in a swamp.
But all kidding aside, there is much truth in your statement - unfortunately they don't only bring the needed water, they tend to bring much of which is VERY unwanted or needed.
