VANITY: Any of the Swiftvets raise a stink back in the 70's?
8.15.04 | Me

Posted on 08/15/2004 8:42:08 PM PDT by oolatec

We have been hearing a lot lately from the Swiftvets and how they don't think Kerry deserved his medals... I am trying to find any kind of information that shows they also felt this way right after Kerry left Vietnam... Other than O'Neill challenging Kerry on the war crimes charges, I can't seem to find anything that says the Swifties questioned his medals back in the 70's... any help?

The argument my Libby friend is using is:

The Swifties never questioned Kerry's medals in 1971 etc., and that proves they are part of the Republican attack machine!

Today cspan ran the 1971 tape of the debate between Kerry and O'Neill--Kerry then represented the VVAW and O'Neill the Swifties. I trust that answers your question.

Golly, I must have slept through Kerry's run for President in '71. (It was a VERY bad year for me though - I was having no end of trouble picking up 6th grade math).

Before this election campaign most of the Swifties just didn't know all the lies Kerry had told and gotten away with.

For example, the doctor who treated Kerry's splinter didn't know that Kerry would get a purple heart for it.

How about Kerry wasn't running for president back in the '70s. How about Kerry wasn't bragging about what a hero he was back in the '70s. If he wasn't running for president on his 4 month record in Nam, it wouldn't be a problem now.

Nobody, at the time, cared what Kerry did in 1971. He was just another self-promoting putz, so Big Deal! However, when the self-promoting putz runs for the highest office in the land, based on a fabricated record, men of honor are duty-bound to reveal the information to their countrymen.

That violates the Geneva convention. As does the torturing.

Ok, some good points made... thanks!!!

About the O'Neill/Kerry debate... my Libby friend seems to think O'Neill is the only Swifty that had an issue with Kerry... that's really the issue here... I keep digging but can't find anyone other than O'Neill saying anything... :(

How then can he now say that the Swiftvets book and commentary is dishonorable. I'm sorry. I just don't get McCain.

They didn't speak up, because what was the point.

But when shameless Kerry is seeking the Presidency, they feel they have no choice, but to speak up.

http://swift1.he.net/~swiftvet/index.php

"Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has been formed to counter the false "war crimes" charges John Kerry repeatedly made against Vietnam veterans who served in our units and elsewhere, and to accurately portray Kerry's brief tour in Vietnam as a junior grade Lieutenant. We speak from personal experience -- our group includes men who served beside Kerry in combat as well as his commanders. Though we come from different backgrounds and hold varying political opinions, we agree on one thing: John Kerry misrepresented his record and ours in Vietnam and therefore exhibits serious flaws in character and lacks the potential to lead.

We regret the need to do this. Most Swift boat veterans would like nothing better than to support one of our own for America's highest office, regardless of whether he was running as a Democrat or a Republican. However, Kerry's phony war crimes charges, his exaggerated claims about his own service in Vietnam, and his deliberate misrepresentation of the nature and effectiveness of Swift boat operations compels us to step forward.

For more than thirty years, most Vietnam veterans kept silent as we were maligned as misfits, addicts, and baby killers. Now that a key creator of that poisonous image is seeking the Presidency we have resolved to end our silence.

The time has come to set the record straight."

well, the reason they did not put themselves out there is that Kerry never ran for president before..it was not worth it to challenge him as long as he was just a senator from Mass..now that he is running for the office of Commander-in-Chief, I think they are genuinely distressed...they were willing to put it behind them..it is Kerry who put it out there and kept putting it out there..guess he figured no one would have the guts to challenge him....as usual, his ego overcame his what little common sense he has...

The issue is the veracity of the accusations against sKerry.

But, arguing with libs is akin to arguing with a 2 year old. Good luck.

OK, how about this. The lefties never questioned GWB's ANG record in the 70's that proves they are part of the Dim attack machine.

the big questions is, if you prove to your friend that skerry has lied, cheated, etc., will he/she vote for GW? Probably not. You can not save those that do not want to be saved. Go find two undecided or non voters to vote for GW and your ahead of the game.
