My dad pulled mines for the 79th Cameron Highlanders at Anzio so they could do graves registration. He says you can get used to anything when you're 19 . . . but it took him 50 years to talk about it.

It was about 50 years after the storm when grandad would gather us around his chair & talk about it. I heard the stories so many times at such an impressionable age I almost felt like I had been there. He didn't talk much about the bodies he mostly told us about the weather & the noise.

Nothing, model work was done on droping an A bomb into the eye of a hurricane, no long term effect. The energy in a hurricane is far greater then man can generate.

I would never live in Tiki island, Tiki Island is nice, very nice but entirely to low for me. I kinda like dry land.

Oh, dad expurgates his account too.

His old unit had a reunion recently at my parents' house. It would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall at that party.

You need to write down what you can remember right away. That kind of oral history is extremely valuable.

San Leon has not changed much, we are caught in a time warp. Shimping is still our claim to fame. $1.50 still buys a cold bottle of beer. No Jack in the Box, no MacDoanlds, no Wal-Mart or Krogers, no nothing. And that is just fine with us.

Well then I will be happy to buy you a beer or two and tell tall tales. It will be fun.

I used to know where the 1940 house was but things have changed where we were a bit. It wasn't San Leon exactly but a little farther north. Do you know where the old Humble camp was? My dad worked for the Humble Co. & we lived in company housing. Like I said, I have lost track of the exact spot.

We kept a boat at Eagle Point Camp before we bought our Tiki house. I liked Tiki better because the water was a nice green color more of the time than where you are. I miss the bay.

Earl disintegrated over the Gulf this morning. Just a loose tropical wave heading towards Mexico now.

Thank God.
