NHS: H. Charley will landfall at Charlotte Harbor late PM as CAT 3 storm

The National Hurricane Center has now upgraded Hurricane Charley to a CATEGORY 3 storm with SUSTAINED winds of 125 MPH.
The storm is moving NNE at 20 MPH, and the center of the storm should reach Charlotte Harbor (about 2 hrs. SOUTH of Tampa) late this afternoon.
This is good news for Tampa, as the worst of the storm will be to the south of Tampa Bay.
The CAT 3 storm will come ashore in the Naples and Ft. Myers areas late this afternoon.

Pardon my lack of geographical knowledge, but is Sarasota threatened?It'll get a fair hit, but will be on the better side of landfall for storm surge - 4 to 7 feet instead of 10 to 14 feet.

It's a 4!!! Just upgraded!Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Weren't we just saying yesterday that it looked like a Cat 3 when they were saying Cat 2? I've been watching it all morning, and it looked like it was bombing out - explosive intensification - the central dense overcast got signficantly wider.

Crap. My brother's in Hudson and I have friends in Tampa. I hope everyone's ok. Isabell was nothing compared to this and it made life hell in Tidewater VA for a month...many months for some.
