I live in Sarasota County and we're expecting the eye to be very, very close. We're all buttoned down (wife, daughter, grandma, and two dogs) with storm shutters and panels. We live about 1.5 miles from the bay and perhaps 2.5 to 3.5 miles from the Gulf. The womenfolk are starting to get nervous, so my wife made my Mom turn off the TV weather reports. Stay tuned.......

Latest (1400 EDT, 1800Z) forecast track from the NWS. That's bad news for North Carolina...the storm will cross Florida and go back out to sea, giving it more of a chance to gain strength and smack into Wilmington still as a hurricane.

2:47pm Dunedin FL - Every durn window taped. Yard secured. One table, chair and laptop on porch along with the dog, cat and me. We've had a sprinkle but there's not a hint of a breeze - except for my two fans. ;-)

Truck on street - away from trees. Daughter's new Beetle on lawn with few trees above it. Wife out looking for where she wants her truck! Wife now convinced to let the animals and me inside if it really starts to blow ... what about youse guys?

I just rode through Alex last week in Waves, NC. This is considerably worse than that. This thing strengthened fast and may hit the east coast after it crosses Florida, sort of like Hugo. Nasty!
