Rush on McGreevy: Sympathy for living a lie
vanity | August 13, 2004 | Vanity

Posted on 08/13/2004 9:53:21 AM PDT by fightinJAG

Okay, please don't flame me. I'm honestly interested in what freepers think about this.

Ever since Rush came back from rehab and started talking about "living a lie" and "not being able to make other people happy" and all that, I've had the uneasy feeling that Rush had "discovered" something more about himself than he was letting on.

Today, listening to Rush as he talked about his empathy for McGreevy, it seemed inevitable to wonder if Rush's empathy (and, please, if you did not hear Rush's comments, realize it's difficult to assess the tone and emotion with which he delivered them) wasn't tied back to his own "living a lie" struggles.

Yes, it would be easy to think that the "lie" was his drug addiction, but . . . I'm posting this because it really seemed as though Rush might be warming up to his own bombshell (whatever that might be).

His commentary was so passionate, in a personal, not political way, that I even wondered if he was (unconsciously) seeing if he could start a thread like this, in order to see what the speculation might be and what the reaction to that speculation might be.

Who heard Rush's opening commentary on McGreevy and what was your reaction/thoughts? Thanks. I'd be interested to know.

Limbaugh should save his sympathy for someone who deserves it.

Rush's comments are appropriate to the situation. He is not standing in high judgement over another and damning another human. This is a respectable, Christian manner of talking about this time of revelation. Rush is also sensitive to the fact of who are truely hurt which are his wife and children.

I, too, believe that the reason the governor is stepping down is out of pure politics and the scandals that have embroiled this administration.

Rush is handling this situation with class, which is more than can be said of his detractors who had spoken about Rush's addiction.

Honestly when I heard it I at first thought the same thing that you are implying, but I honestly think that he was most likely referring to his struggle with drug addiction

Limbaugh's gone homo, I'm sure.

Either that, or he's been fooling around from a nice Jewish girl from Manhattan.

I thought he was expressing understanding, not necessarily sympathy, and definitely not forgiveness. Perhaps empathy is the proper word.

There was another thread on this a short while ago which appears to have been ... zotted?

Actually, what I heard from Rush is that McGreevey is being tossed aside by the NJ dems. That's it. McGreevey can only bring them grief so he is gone.

Rush's prescription drug problem with pain killers, is not anything like marrying two women and having two children all the while having sex with men - living a lie to get elected to office and use taxpayers money to fund this deceitful lifestyle............ugh. NO comparison. NO sympathy. Rush needs to move on from his problems and stop empathizing with losers.

McGreevy is hiding behind his homosexuality to deflect criticism of his corruption.

Rush is cleverly separating the two issues. Showing empathy for the man peels away the homosexuality issue and exposes the corruption for what it is.

At least I think that's whats happening.

"Unconsciously?" "start a thread like this?" "see what speculation might be?" Perhaps you are projecting certain traits about yourself which have absolutely nothing to do with Mr. Limbaugh.

I hope you aren't going to write a book anytime soon!

Words like that indicate your research won't be valid, according to democrat talking points.

You missed the point where he said he wasn't making any personal announcements. "I'm done with personal announcements", is what he said.

I think he is referring to the lie he was living through his painkiller addiction. I think Rush is surprised that he could be so stupid as to let himself get addicted and still beats himself up over it.

I'd rather find out what the "all your dreams will come true" stuff is all about.

McGreevy's revelation of being gay is just the smokescreen. He's employing a Clintonista tactic, i.e. when BAD news is inevitable, get YOUR VERSION OF THE TRUTH (...my truth...)OUT FIRST!. He may have been forced into the events of yesterday by the former lover's threat of a lawsuit and/or extortion, but the fact remains the McGreevy put himself in his situation...

Rush was silenced by the homo lobby years ago. They must've been affecting his bottom line. No pun intended. If he really cares about America, he would realize the insidious nature that homosexuality portrays and talk more about their attacks on America. His defense of McGreavey only reinforces the fact that he is afraid the that lobby.
