Woman says she lost job for eating bacon
Orlando Sentinel ^ | August 13, 2004 | Brian Baskin

........"This is unusual in the sense that my client is not seeking an accommodation to practice a particular religious belief, but instead is being discriminated against because she is failing to conform to the religious belief of management," he said.

Officials with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a federal agency that handles workplace-discrimination complaints, said Morales' case was "a groundbreaker."

But Kujaatele Kweli, CEO of Rising Star, said Morales was fired for insubordination, not for eating bacon. He said she cooked bacon in the office lunchroom's microwave after she was warned twice that her eating pork at work offended co-workers and clients. Rising Star produces self-help DVDs and is designing an Internet filter that would block sites Muslim parents might find inappropriate for their children.

The policy was put in place because "99 percent of our funding comes from a Muslim client," and 30 percent to 40 percent of Rising Star's 40 employees at the time were Muslim, Kweli said. The company now has a staff of five, he said.

"She was not fired because I or anybody found it offensive that she ate pork," Kweli said.

"She was fired because we established a rule that allowed Muslims and Christians to eat together, and Muslims and the rest of the staff could not eat together if we had allowed that to continue."...........

If you go to a supermarket in Long Island, they have different slicers for kosher meat, non kosher meat, and cheese.

That's just not true, except for perhaps a few towns where there are a lot of Jews. I've lived here for over 40 years, and have NEVER seen such a thing.

The nuker works OK but skillet works best. And I don't want the lefts fear or respect; I want them completely marginalized and eventually gone. They're poison.

My sister did it that way -- the bacon came out great; the microwave didn't!

The article does not list if this woman was an illegal alien or not. Given that 28 million of them live here, the chances are pretty good she was.

I don't know, but muslim students are allowed to pray several times on a lot of public school campuses. Mixed bag of goods.

Where it's not true, observant Jews will patronize a kosher butcher instead of the supermarket.

Parcooking bacon in a papertowel before frying is a good way to get rid of excess fat. Either way, this lady should take her punishment. You can't bring certain foods into a Ben's Deli. If I was an employee at a Ben's Deli, I'd not bring pork sandwiches there either.

Let's see, a small technology company. Small enough that everybody knows everybody else. This doesn't sound like your garden variety Rio Grande wading ignoramus.

My sister tried cooking bacon in a microwave -- once. It took her forever to clean it up afterwards, and she still had the smell of bacon every time she used it for quite a while!

She should get one of these:

Invented by an 8-year-old girl and manufactured/marketed by her dad. Works great, I've got one. You lay a paper towel sheet over it before microwaving to stop splatters:

You can find them for sale in many drugstores, or buy from their website.

I am not jewish and will patronize the local butcher, kosher or not. I like the nice prompt service.
