Much to my surprise, one of Kerry's lies is actually being reported on. Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is having more of an impact than Kerry would have liked.

Naturally, Kerry has been vague and evasive about answering this charge. The current strategy seems to be saying that he was just confused about the date (apparently there is some confusion in the Kerry camp as to when Christmas occurs), and that he was near Cambodia during Christmas. Or maybe they were in Cambodia during Christmas after all. They're not completely sure, actually.

President Bush finishes answering a question, then looks over at Lurch.

"Why don't you ask him where he was on Christmas Eve 1968?"

The looks on Lurch's face would go down in the history books, Tivo'd for all time.

The fact that they have Lanny Davis and Carville out trying to derail O'Neill says it all. (O'Neill in contrast to them is hurting them all the more...their strategy here is self-defeating because the light of truth always wins over darkness)

The fact that they are now looking to float a "January in Cambodia" explanation says it all.

I'm registered non-partisan, so to keep my credentials I'm going to help the Kerry camp out (I know you guys are lurking). So here you go:

Face it--yer boy got caught lying. Not a little white lie, but a whopper. The problem we have here is that Kerry claimed that the memory of being in Cambodia during Christmas was "seared" into his brain. Now, the word "seared" is a very strong word. It's like the word "branded". We're talking about red-hot iron pressed into the flesh. In the context of Kerry's whopper it means there ain't no way, no how he's wrong about being in Cambodia during Christmas.

Now on to my solution (free of charge, btw): Although the word "seared" is mighty powerful, there is some wiggle room in it. What you dems need to engage in is a little history revision. Oh, please, don't act so shocked--you do it every day. What you need to revise is Kerry's 'seared in the mind' speech. I would suggest downgrading the word "seared" to something less definitive like, perhaps....."lightly roasted". Try it on for size: "The memory of being in Cambodia on Christmas is lightly roasted in my brain". See how that works? That's much less aggressive than "seared". Every week downgrade the word. Example: "The memory of being in Cambodia on Christmas is sauteed in my brain". The week after that: "The memory of being in Cambodia on Christmas is poached in my brain". Before you know it Kerry will have no recollection of ever being in Cambodia.

I have read that the channel leading to Cambodia was blocked so it was impossible to access Cambodia from where the Swiftboats were stationed. Does anyone have any information on this subject?

About one to three miles from the border are a series of cables, cement casements that prevent anything short of shallow draft sampans from navigating through the river. We could not get heavy boats through but the enemy could get very few and very small boats through. That way only locals with limited needs could still get through and the VC would be limited in getting large quantities of supplies through. We had ambush patrols in the area to stop portage attempts. We later had sounding devices which detected human movement sounds and vehicle movement.

But that data was not directly Xmitted to the troops - first it went to an aircraft doing lazy 8's over the area then to NKP in Thailand for analysis by a couple of IBM 360/70's and then Xmitted to OPS in Nam which may or may not have made a decision to load up a fighter/bomber or 3 and attack - hours afterwards - yes we calculated how far they "should" have advanced from initial data report.

The "troops" never got the advantage of the data!
