George and Laura Bush to be on with Larry King for the full hour tonight. I don't usually watch LKL because of his lame questions. But it should be interesting.
"I'm the guy who believes in reducing taxes"
President: This is politics. People put words in your mouth. I said it was an interesting idea (re sales tax).
Let me make this clear. I'm the guy who believes in reducing taxes and keeping them low. I think it would be a mistake to raise taxes now. It would slow the economy down.
LK just interrupted LB again!
In EVERY interview of Bush, I've heard the question of whether Bush considers he made a MISTAKE in _____________. (You fill in the blank.) They're trying so hard to get a sound bite for a campaign TV spot to skewer him. Bush is smarter than they are. Thank God.
But the longer I watched, the more Larry began to grate on my nerves. While he isn't as overtly obnoxious as, say, Carville, he becomes annoying very quickly. As my father used to say, "a little of him goes a long way." King's every question seems to be a "gotcha," and he often puts words in the President's mouth, obliging the President to say, "no, I didn't say that," or words to that effect.
President Bush handled the subtly adversarial questions very well, indeed. He'll do himself some good here. And Laura -- well, think of Teresa as First Lady. Enough said, other than to note that Laura is a tremendous asset, both for the campaign and the country.
I have to say, though I don't watch him except when I'm interested in the guest, he has gone out of his way to be an ass tonight.
LK: Is it a fair question to ask if people are better off than four years ago.
GWB: Yes
LK: What's the answer.
GWB: Yes.....(with a solid 60 second answer!)
LK: You were effusive in your praise of Clinton when the portrait was unveiled.
Oh yeah - if I had a chance to interview the president, that's a question I'd take time to ask. Sheesh.
Lovely Laura explaining to Larry that it is a huge privelege traveling around the country campaigning. (Wonder what Tuhrayza's response would've been..........Hmmmmmmmmmmmm)
Are we better off today than yesterday. GWB saying he would be glad to answer that question and the answer is yes. We're safer than we were four years ago; economy is growing; corporate scandals, no child left behind, and a litany of other reasons why he feels we're better off today. I think he will do quite well debating flipper.
He ends the interview asking about Clinton
He makes me sick!
What a stirring endorsement of a sales tax to replace the income tax. Bush couldn't run away fast enough from that idea. I guess that's DOA now. Too bad. It would be a nice, big idea for the campaign. He could have talked about the underground economy, how a revenue neutral sales tax would lower taxes on regular taxpayers, how people would get rebates, etc. He didn't at all.
"I think Laura should be an issue...it shows what good judgment I have" ;-)
Praised Clinton? More like damned him with faint praise.
Good, talk up Laura a lot. The contrast between her and that awful snob is striking.
GWB looks so good too. He's always tanned, and his hair looks good. ;-) If he looks this tanned and rested against that big ugly liar then he will do great.
he's is on his game tonight! loved that angle on the inheritance tax!
Wow, that questions hasn't been asked yet here in NY. Perhaps you get less commercials than we do.
Wow, and President Bush just gave the ultimate compliment to his wife. He is so devoted to her. They make a wonderful couple.
President Bush took it as an opportunity to show what CLASS he has...as opposed to the way Impeached One and Hildebeast act.
President: I have too much to do and we're under threat. I have a duty to see to it that the soldiers have the equipment needed to do their jobs. There's a lot to this job rather than worry about whether people like me or not.
Concerning debates the president's attitude seems to be bring it on, any time any place.
