For all of the old farts out there that know a good revolver can settle a social fracas as well as a pistol, I got good news. Smith&Wesson is going to reintroduce the Model of 1950 .44 Military to be known as the Thunder Ranch Special Model 21-4. This will be a blued N-Frame, round butt, skinny barreled, fixed sight, .44 Special. I currently have an old Model of 1926 .44 Special, as well as an adjustable sight 6 1/2" Model 24 and a 4" Model 624 .44 Special. This retro model will bring us back to a simpler time, and for those from the Southwest, give an opportunity to own one of the more popular guns used by Southwest Peace Officers. I know the .44 Maggie can do more, has ammo interchangability, has more power etc., but for those more relaxed times you'll be able to slip on a hand tooled(basetweave) El Paso Saddelry Tom Three Persons holster, belt, and slide ammo carrier. Buffalo Bore bullets makes a .44 Special load that sends a 250 Keith bullet at 1000 fps from a 4" barrel @ SAAMI pressures. An ideal companion for the woods, the desert, or the jungles of New Jersey.(something for Mr.Benchley @ DU) The gun will be a standard item, not from the custom shop, so it should be affordable. I know there are better weapons out there for us to get to our rifles, but I for one am looking forward to acquiring one of these. Keep your powder dry. TP
I've always wondered where that expression came from. My dad "crewed" on F-51's (so designated after the army aircorps became the USAF in 1947) and is quite fond of that expression.
I own a Glock 20C for hunting, and a Glock 29 for concealed carry. I like them alot.
What did you think of S&W when they were the first to cave into the Clinton administrations strong arming? Remember that?
When Clinton knew they broke S&W, it emboldened them.
You're absolutely right. My grandfather, a WW II U.S. Army Air Corps. Veteran (Pacific Theatre, 42-45), told me this years ago when I made some off-handed comment about the "whole nine yards."
That is a funky looking 'pistol'
.308 and .30-'06 are only available in the Encore I believe. Really, other than cartridge compatibility, you'd have a hard time getting anything out of either of those that you couldn't get from a .30 Herrett. Even a .30-30 doesn't give you much more than leftover powder. I'm not allergic to wildcats but there is something in being able to just load factory brass.
I thought the revolver you mentioned might be similar to the old S&W Military and Police model. I see it is th .22 Jet, which is an interesting little round.
The singular most comfortable feeling gun I've ever picked up was the .44 Desert Eagle. Like it was molded to my hand.
I didn't think about the noise... I find .22 Mags out of my Mod 48 to be more annoying than .38's or .45's.
As far as the "problem" it may be one of those things that get going around and is finally accepted as gospel although it was mentioned in a 1965 Shooting book I have by Col. Cooper.

I've got large 'mutthooks' to...found a good deal on Gen 2 (no finger grooves) G-20s (10mm) from CDNN bought excellent quality used traded in cop guns....shot very little carried alot....
Dropped a Jarvis 6" barrel in 'er and some Trijicon sites...shoots great
Without those dang grooves fits my hand much better......Robar and a few other companies offer grip reductions and or finger groove removal...
The reductions change the angle of the grip making it a better fit for larger and smaller hands
The 10mm loaded up to Mike McNett's standards (Double Tap Ammo)...approaches that of .41 magnum...given 15 round second ammendment mags....this is a nice combo
Mike is also loading Bear Tooths......another neat bullet to hunt with...
imo
