California high court voids thousands of gay marriages
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The California Supreme Court has voided all gay marriages sanctioned in San Francisco last spring. The court ruled that San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom exceeded his authority when he allowed such unions to take place. The ruling said the same-sex ceremonies ignored both state legislation and a voter-approved measure that defined marriage as a union between a man and woman. Thousands of gay couples received licenses at San Francisco City Hall before a court injunction halted the unprecedented wedding spree.

Weird - a state Supreme Court upholding the law instead of inventing it.

They were void to begin with.

Newsome should face charges. His job is to uphold the law, not deliberately violate it.

I'm glad to know there are some courts in California willing to follow the law.

So do they have to return the gifts?
To: Dante3
Agreed. Does anyone know if he will face charges?

I hope that Newsome and his Sodom-on-the-Bay city is demolished by thousands of individual lawsuits.....

"I hope that Newsome and his Sodom-on-the-Bay city is demolished by thousands of individual lawsuits....."That is the irony - the scum-bag mayor sued by the very people he allowed to "marry". I'd like to see a gay class action lawsuit against him and the City of S F for fraud. What a circus!

Good news coming out of CA. For now, anyway. It will probably be overturned if that bunch of nuts on the 9th Circuit of Appeals gets their hands on it.
