JOHNSON: I believe he has corrected the record to say it was some place near Cambodia he is not certain whether it was in Cambodia but he is certain there was some point subsequent to that that he was in Cambodia.
The problem with Johnson's spin/defense is that it negates the very reason Kerry even talked about the 1968 Christmas in Cambodia incident. It was to discredit Nixon (who wasn't even sworn in yet) that Nixon had secretly sent troops into Cambodia.
If Johnson spins that Kerry was only 'near' Cambodia, then the reason to accuse Nixon and the secret troops evaporates.
This more they spin this story, the deeper the hole they are digging.
Another Kerry spinner later in the day said that Kerry was secretly working with the CIA--who took him along on their incursion into Cambodia---but Kerry can't talk about that. It's still secret, ya know. shhhhhh.
