U.S. Invites Int'l Observers to Election By MONIKA SCISLOWSKA Associated Press Writer August 10, 2004, 5:44 PM EDT WARSAW, Poland -- The United States has invited international observers to monitor November's presidential election, U.S. and European officials said Tuesday. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, or OSCE, said it received the request from the U.S. State Department and would send a team to the United States next month to determine whether to accept the task. The United States is a member of the 55-nation group, which has traditionally focused on monitoring elections in emerging democracies. Adam Ereli, a State Department deputy spokesman, said the OSCE sent 10 observers to the 2002 elections in Florida and two observers to California during the gubernatorial recall election in 2003. He said OSCE observers also had been invited to elections in 1998 and 2000 but that the State Department believes the 2002 elections were the first they observed. He said having observers is part of a principle of "equity and full transparency." "My understanding is that it was an outgrowth of, if we are going to do it for emerging democracies, we also need to do it for ourselves," Ereli said. OSCE has never monitored a U.S. presidential election, said Curtis Budder, a spokesman for the group's Warsaw-based Human Rights Office. The U.S. presidential election in 2000 was held up by results in Florida, where a drawn-out and controversial recount ultimately landed before the U.S. Supreme Court. The preliminary assessment team will travel to the United States in September, he said. Such teams usually meet with members of electoral commissions, political parties and non-governmental organizations. Budder said he did not yet know where the U.S. mission will go.

OSCE in America = paintball targets
Perhaps the OSCE will learn something about how to conduct elections. Otherwise, there is no value in their so-called help.
The US State Department is, and has been, a nest of traitors. I'll be working the polls on Nov 2 and if some piece of s*it from OSCE shows up at my polling place I will personally inspect his/her rectum with one of my Doc Martens.

I have a few ideas. In the meantime, let's send them to those places where, in 2000, the Democratic machine either kept the doors open 2 hours past closing time, or closed on time and then stuffed ballot boxes. Maybe someone can watch over Mayor Daley while they're at it.

I can't for the life of me figure out why this is being done. Unless they think it's a way to keep the rats from lying about "disenfranchised voters". But if this OSCE is related to the UN. How do we no they won't lie anyway, especially if president Bush is reelected. To me, this is hiring the fox to guard the hen house. I don't want anyone but our own nation having a say in what happens in our elections. (especially not the UN ).

A nice idea that would probably get you shot. You know these observers are going to be protected by federal agents or even troops.
Not yet anyway, but the politicians are working at least the latter criteria.
As long as we are "reorganizing" our intelligence services, why don't we reorganize the State Department too? We could begin to get rid of some anti-Americanism there.
In that case, I'd be more inclined to us a lead based 'paint' with a higher velocity, from a farther distance.
