ABC News' political unit produces a daily newsletter called "The Note," which today makes an idiotic claim.
Forget the fact that that we still can't find a single American who voted for Al Gore in 2000 who is planning to vote for George Bush in 2004. (If you are that elusive figure, e-mail us and tell us who you are and why: politicalunit@abcnews.com.)Don't forget that "The Note" jumped off of the fence of impartiality back in February when they admitted that they are liberal, and actively working for the defeat of President Bush.
Like every other institution, the Washington and political press corps operate with a good number of biases and predilections. So, contrary to the constant carpings about impartiality, keep in mind the ultimate agenda of the Washington press corps in general, and ABC News in particular, as admitted by their own staffers: They want Bush out. Period. They include, but are not limited to, a near-universal shared sense that liberal political positions on social issues like gun control, homosexuality, abortion, and religion are the default, while more conservative positions are "conservative positions."
It still has a hard time understanding how, despite the drumbeat of conservative grass-top complaints about overspending and deficits, President Bush's base remains extremely and loyally devoted to him -- and it looks for every opportunity to find cracks in that base.
More systematically, the press believes that fluid narratives in coverage are better than static storylines; that new things are more interesting than old things; that close races are preferable to loose ones; and that incumbents are destined for dethroning, somehow.
Just damn.
If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
The Kerry Spot at NRO.com is slapping down "The Note" already!

NO GORE VOTERS FOR BUSH? ANYWHERE? [08/11 11:16 AM]
ABC's The Note also writes, Forget the fact that that we still can't find a single American who voted for Al Gore in 2000 who is planning to vote for George Bush in 2004. (If you are that elusive figure, e-mail us and tell us who you are and why: politicalunit@abcnews.com.)
I know of at least one friend, leans Democrat, comes from a big union town, likes Democratic economic policies, and Im pretty sure he voted Gore in 2000. (Although he thought the hanging chads arguments of the Gore team were ludicrous.) Anyway, he's been pro-Bush since 9/11, and wants an aggressive anti-terrorism policy.
Ill bet hes not the only one, particularly in the Virginia/New York/New Jersey region. Or theres blogger Roger Simon. I wonder who St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly, Sen. Zell Miller and former New York City Mayor Ed Koch voted for in 2000. U.S.Rep. Rodney Alexander of Louisiana recently switched parties to the GOP; it would be interesting to see who he voted for last time. Hes not my favorite person, but Geraldo Rivera seems to have made an ideological shift since 9/11. Dont know if comedian and talk show host Dennis Miller voted for Gore. Did a Google search, found a column by Jeffrey Scott Shapiro along these lines.
I dont know how many Gore voters nationwide will switch to Bush, but you cant say there are none.
UPDATE: I'm getting lots of great emails from Kerry Spot readers who pulled the lever for Gore four years ago but who support Bush this time. Folks, thanks, but I'm the one who believed you existed. Send the emails to politicalunit@abcnews.com. And be nice, because they're mostly good folks over there, who just need to look at the electorate with a slightly wider lens.
UPDATE, AGAIN: OpinionJournal.com ran letters from these types of voters a little while ago.

JEEZ, ARE ANY GORE VOTERS PULLING THE LEVER FOR KERRY THIS YEAR? [08/11 01:13 PM]
It appears there are about a hillion jillion billion google and one Gore voters who are voting for Bush this year. How do I know this? Because it appears every last one of them decided to e-mail me in response to this post. Again, folks, its great to hear from you, but honestly, Im not the one who needs to hear from you. ABC News does. So e-mail politicalunit@abcnews.com (and cc me if you like).
And yes, author Ronald Kessler voted for Gore and is now actively supporting President Bush. Thanks to the teeming millions who pointed this out.

Translation: We'll lie if we want to.
that new things are more interesting than old things;
Unless it's Bush's National Guard Service.
that close races are preferable to loose ones;
Because the Dems can't cheat if the election isn't close.
and that incumbents are destined for dethroning, somehow.
The end justifies the means.
I'm amazed that these pinheads were this open with their mendenacity.
Someone should remind them, Gore LOST.
There's also plenty of Gore supporters that won't be voting for kerry either.
The problem is that it's based in part on Charles Cook's analysis. Cook has always seemed to be an objective guy. His opinions about this election give me cause to worry.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am responding to The Note, published today, in slightly different terms than your request.
I didn't vote for Gore and now intend to vote for Bush. However, I DO have comments on the "vote attraction" qualities of Kerry, as different from Gore. I went to college with Kerry, and preceded him as an officer and debater in the Yale Political Union. He has changed very little -- more money and more wrinkles notwithstanding -- since then.
I wrote about that first, six months ago, most recently, this week. You can run me through Google News, if interested in seeing that. I also am ABD for a Ph.D. in political science. From that, and from the real world, I know that turnout depends, in part, on likability. While I have never met President Bush, from analyzing his public appearances, I feel certain that he is WYSIWYG, as they say in computer programming. ("What you see is what you get.")
The unstated assumption in your entire Note today is that Bush will be as voter attractive, no more no less, than he was in 2000. And that Kerry will be as voter attractive as Gore was. Both sides of that assumption are, in my judgment, false. And that changes the entire equation that you set out.
Sincerely,
John Armor, Esq. (address & phone)
Congressman Billybob

"Does anyone know if Senator Zell Miller voted for Al Gore in 2000?"
I'm quite sure he did... as did I. I just wrote an email to ABCnews revealing myself as a Gore voter turned Bush voter. I explained to them that the Democratic party is becoming increasingly left-wing and elitist, and many southerners and Union households will no longer vote for them, especially Kerry.
Here is the email I just sent to the email address listed above:
I voted for Al Gore in 2000. I am voting for President Bush this year.
I get a little annoyed when I see article after article about people who have voted for Bush in 2000, but are now voting for Kerry, but no mention of the opposite side of that equation. Al Gore got alot of votes from Union Households and Southerners and I think that Kerry is going to lose many of these voters. I personally didn't switch to "Pro-Bush" until the run-up to the Iraq war, when I noticed that the democratic party started "Bush-Bashing" and playing politics with homeland security and Iraq shortly before the November 2002 elections.
That election was the first time I voted Republican. It was also the first time voting republican for many in the South(especially Georgia) and Union households(Especially in the Industrial Midwest).
Since then, the Bush-bashing has just gotten worse and worse, and I no longer see the Mainstream media(ABCnews included) as unbiased. I think that the Democratic Party has become more "Elitist" over the last few years, increasingly representing hollywood and left-wing urbanites, as opposed to working families. John Kerry is the perfect poster-child for the new "Elitist" Democratic Party that I no longer will vote for.
Dumb ass ABC shills!!!
I know two prominent dims that are voting for Bush, that voted for Gore in 2000. Mayor Ed Koch ex Mayor NY City, and Zell Miller retiring US Senator... and a third is the Mayor of St. Paul, Minn.!
Lying A$$ new organization!!!!!!!!!

I am so glad I am not the only gore fool here ;)
Hey, we all make mistakes, both hubby and I voted for gore, and just like Dennis Miller, after 9/11 we both changed...
(hence my name, I have come back into the fold of the Republican party)
I sent a short, rude email to abc myself
Yes, Zell voted for Gore in 2000, and admitted it when interviewed some time back by Sean Hannity! See my response above.

Here's where their claim comes from:

Considering they quote Rush on that "notebook", one would think they'd be more widely read:

Ed Koch.
That was easy and I am not even a member of the press. There is bound to be more.
