Kerry "Corrects Record," "Seared" Memory of Christmas in Cambodia Now "Mistaken Recollection"
Wednesday, August 11, 2004 | Kristinn

Posted on 08/11/2004 6:41:38 AM PDT by kristinn

In an interview this morning on Fox and Friends, Kerry spokeman Jeh Johnson backed off of Democrat presidential nominee Senator John Kerry's repeated statements that he had spent Christmas 1968 on a secret mission in Cambodia.

Fox's Brian Kilmead asked Mr. Johnson whether Sen. Kerry would release the action report from January 20, 1969 regarding purported action in Cambodia.

Mr. Johnson said, "I believe you're referring to an incident that happened near Cambodia. Okay, well John Kerry has said on the record that he had a mistaken recollection earlier. He talked about a combat situation on Christmas Eve, 1968, which at one point he said occurred in Cambodia. He has since corrected the record to say it was someplace on a river near Cambodia and he is certain that at some point subsequent to that he was in Cambodia. My recollection, my understanding is he was not certain about that date.

Mr. Kilmead brought up Sen. Kerry's 1986 floor speech in the Senate where he talked about spending Christmas in Cambodia as being "seared---seared" in his memory.

Mr. Johnson replied, "I believe he's corrected the record to say it was someplace near Cambodia, but he is not certain whether it was actually in Cambodia but he is certain that there was some point subsequent to that that he was in Cambodia."

Mr. Johnson also repeated Sen. Kerry's canard that he left Yale in 1966 and turned down all options to further his education by choosing to serve his country. As was (barely) reported in March of this year, Sen. Kerry asked for and was denied a one year deferment to study in Paris.

HOLIDAY IN CAMBODIA LYRICS - Dead Kennedys

So you been to school
For a year or two
And you know you’ve seen it all
In daddy’s car
Thinkin’ you’ll go far
Back east your type don’t crawl

Play ethnicky jazz
To parade your snazz
On your five grand stereo
Braggin’ that you know
How the niggers feel cold
And the slums got so much soul

It’s time to taste what you most fear
Right guard will not help you here
Brace yourself, my dear¡

It’s a holiday in cambodia
It’s tough, kid, but it’s life
It’s a holiday in cambodia
Don’t forget to pack a wife

You’re a star-belly sneech
You suck like a leach
You want everyone to act like you
Kiss ass while you bitch
So you can get rich
But your boss gets richer off you

Well you’ll work harder
With a gun in your back
For a bowl of rice a day
Slave for soldiers
Till you starve
Then your head is skewered on a stake

Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need, my son¡.

Is a holiday in cambodia
Where people dress in black
A holiday in cambodia
Where you’ll kiss ass or crack

Pol pot, pol pot, pol pot, pol pot, etc¡.

And it’s a holiday in cambodia
Where you’ll do what you’re told
A holiday in cambodia
Where the slums got so much soul

Wanna bet?! Their choice will be to cover it UP.

I agree. Let's now take a peak into the editorial decision making at the major news networks...

I think Steve would have been better. I liked the way he interviewed O'Neal. Every time they discuss this story, Brian gets a sour look on his face like he just ate a lemon. And I love Brian.

This is happening quite a bit as of late huh? Caught in the lie, remove the evidence!

This is straight out of Orwell's 1984. Down the memory hole?

Okay, well John Kerry has said on the record that he had a mistaken recollection earlier.

Where did he do that?

Every question was parried with a long statement about how Kerry was (you won't believe this) a Viet Nam veteran and therefore had to be treated with respect.

The media would be well advised to take that attitude toward the Swift Vets and stop treating them with contempt.

Maybe it would have been better to concentrate and emphasize Kerry's smearing and defaming all Viet vets rather than go into the other stuff. He can't deny it since it was recorded. What was his defense -- the end justified the means? I have no problem with the whole story but I'm not sure that it won't backfire.

I agree with you on this. Although the united support of the Swift Boat Vets is damning, it still amounts to "he said-she said" (though with documents, of course). But there is an emotion running through the country right now that doesn't want to hear this, because servicemen and women are fighting and dying in far away lands today, and it appears unseemly to question ones actions after so long and with the awards he received.

However, it was Kerry, who now receives the benefit of the doubt about his record, who smeared ALL Viet Nam servicemen with his recorded testimony to Congress about killings and atrocities that did not happen. I have no doubt that his actions prolonged that war and led to the deaths of additional US fighters there. This is what must be exposed, and one reason so many of us Viet Nam vets are so incensed at his trumpeting and embellishing his actions in Viet Nam now, when it only helps him in his goal of becoming President. He is a deceitful person and an opportunist of the worst kind with no integrity and no loyalty except to himself.

Ye gad and little fishies. They still haven't taken that story down. Has the campaign owned up to the Cambodia story being untrue anywhere other than FNC?

Nixon "era" didn't start till Jan 21 1969.

You know that and I know that, but John Kerry successfully asserted for years that he distinctly recalled being in Cambodia on Christmas Eve, 1968, while at the same time Nixon was telling the American people no troops were in Cambodia:

Kerry's Cambodia Claims Scrutinized

In an Oct. 14, 1979, letter to the editor of the Boston Herald, Kerry wrote: "I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."

I want Kerry and his minions confronted with the entire context of Kerry's Cambodian tale and be made to account for every blasted word and implication he was stating.

It seems one damning report has now gone down the memory hole. Very interesting. This may be something you want to let Drudge know about.
