No, no. This is actually extremely serious.

I registred in response to it, in order to comment.

For those who know diplomacy: this is the diplomatic equivilant of the middle finger. If Iran is really behaving like this we've got every reason to be very worried about what stage their program is at.

I agree with you and the EU had better wake up IMMEDIATELY. This is far more dangerous than we knew, and I'd be willing to bet they either already have nukes, or are well on the way.

The IAEA is totally useless and if it turns out that they have nukes, Al Baradi ought to be hanged.

When Iran actually gets a nuke or two, they will probably make some outrageous demands, especially of Israel, that could lead directly to war. That will consist of an ultimatim, followed by rejection, followed by war.

You're spot on... this is not the typical cowardly Muslim behavior... this is the behavior of folks who think they have a bomb, or will have one real soon.

What I was trying to get at is that Iran just Isolated itself. Even the EU can no longer deal with these people. Kind of like Dean coming in third in the Iowa caucus, then he screamed, then the rats started jumping ship off the Deantanic leaving him isolated and alone too.

Eh, not the best analogy.

First off, welcome to Free Republic. Second, what do you know? C'mon, spill the beans, we won't tell. LOL! How diplomatic is that? :-)

Exactly so. They're right on the verge. Which is why Charles Krauthammer, maybe ten days ago or less, said on Fox and also in a column, that doing something about Iran wouldn't wait until the next presidential cycle -- in other words, before Jan. 2005. So it looks as if we don't have 90 days. Tough. Either Bush does something, or Israel will.

They are pushing us to take them out before the election... gambling that we will take out systems they can easily replace or are duplicated elsewhere... and that it will trigger election of France's candidate; John Effing Kerry, who wll back down from the pan arab state we are at war with as a proxy for the communists worldwide and their satellite states.

Will Rogers once said, "Diplomacy is the art of saying 'nice doggy' until you can find a rock."

If Iran's through saying "nice doggy", then...

Iran has given the US the middle finger and has dared this nation to do something to stop them.

"Serious" isn't quite the descriptive to use regarding the Iranian challenge. Potentially Apocalyptic is closer to the reality. The third leg of the axis of evil might be in close consultatations with the second leg, North Korea. Rumblings that Red China is spoiling for a showdown, after the 2008 Olympics on their mainland, to me indicates the Reds are orchestrating some of this.

We're in very dangerous times. With Kerry-Hienz looking to co-opt the WH, we're in very deep crap.

Yes they are, and yes we are and have been.

One of the primary and untold reasons (actually it was told) for taking out Saddam was to put in a friendly govt. next to Iran that would be a beacon to Iranian people who want freedom.

This would totally screw the Ayatollahs out of power and stabilize a large portion of the ME.

The plan appears to be working, and the Iranian Mullah's are beginning to fold up like a cheap suit.

My first thought too when I saw the headline. I was reminded of Hitler's demands to France and Britain to acquire the Sudetanland and other territories. Well, perhaps Iran thinks they can play the same game...

Welcome.

Agreed.

Teheran's request, said by British officials to have "gone down very badly",

This sounds like the F.C.O. is incredibly concerned. We can probably expect a lot of movement (though not necessarily publicly).

Welcome to F.R. I love the screen-name, bought the House of Cards trilogy on D.V.D. a couple of weeks ago, I had forgotten how glorious it is.

Wait, but I thought "soft diplomacy" worked better than threats and use of force?

It's so sophisticated, and European, how could it possibly fail?

Thi is what Blackmail looks like.

For years we worried about the Soviets doing a "Findlandization" on the rest of Europe.

The Iranians are doing just that, if you read the signal.

They want Europe actively engaged against Israel.
