Israeli woman suspected of ties to terror arrested

Police and Shin Bet officers on Monday arrested Tali Fahima, the left-wing activist and reported lover of Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigades Jenin leader Zakariya Zubeidi, the man she lived with for two weeks in the West Bank city.

Her remand was extended by nine days at the Petah Tikva Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Fahima is suspected of assisting Palestinian terrorists in planning a terrorist attack and committing serious security breaches.

Security officials believe Fahima to be in constant contact with Zubeidi, who is the most wanted terrorist in the Jenin area.

Fahima, a resident of Tel Aviv's Jaffa neighborhood, was driving from Tel Aviv to the West Bank when police and Shin Bet officers arrested her, Israel Radio reported Tuesday.

Zubeidi, who Fahima says, "is a kindhearted person whom I was lucky to meet," is wanted for involvement in a number of terrorist attacks.

In May, Fahima was arrested at the Salem checkpoint north of Jenin for violating an IDF order not to enter Area A.

"There is no chance that she was involved in planning terror attacks," Fahima's lawyer said.

"Taking into account my experience from the last time Tali was arrested, as well as her personality, I think there is no chance that she was involved in planning terror attacks. She's an Israeli like you and me, and has no interest or motive to plan or help in carrying out attacks against Israelis," the lawyer said.

I think the diffence would be like comparing our local or state police to the FBI or maybe the CIA. I think the Shin Bet are also responsible for the protection of the P.M. much like our Secret Service. As a matter of fact, the Secret Service might be a more accurate comparison. Regardless, they are usually associated with the intel people rather than the duties of a police force ie investigation and law enforcement.

Jewish Left-Wing Extremist Arrested On Terrorism Charges

Released for publication: A Jewish "peace activist" from Tel Aviv, 29-year-old Tali Fahima, has been arrested on suspicion of planning terrorist attacks against Jewish targets and aiding arch-terrorist Zakaria Zubeidi from Jenin.

Fahima was arrested yesterday by police and turned over to agents of the General Security Services (GSS/Shabak). The Petach Tikva District Court extended Fahima's remand by nine days, and placed a gag order on further details of the case.

The alleged anti-Jewish terrorist Jewess is suspected of planning terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers, and of contact with terrorist groups. The arrest comes while Israeli security officials have publicly warned of "extremist right-wing" terrorist intentions, without presenting evidence of such - while saying nothing of such plots from the left-wing.

Fahima, a resident of Tel Aviv, paid frequent visits to the slums of Jenin, where she developed a serious and apparently romantic relationship with Jenin Al-Aksa Brigades chief Zakaria Zubeidi - one of the most wanted terrorists in Israel. "Even if Zakaria did carry out attacks, so what?" she said of him. "He is under occupation. He is a freedom fighter." Zubeidi, contacted by Ynet, said, "If she is a terrorist, then the entire 'peace camp' in Israel are terrorists as well."

Arutz-7 correspondent Kobi Finkler reports that Fahima was first arrested last May for aiding the enemy in a time of war, possession of firearms, and contact with a terrorist organization. Her lawyer claimed that she used her weapon only in "extenuating circumstances" and insisted that her visits to Jenin were of a humanitarian nature- to help open a school for children in Jenin. Fahima herself said that she wished to serve as a human shield for Zubeidi, to protect him from Israeli security forces. She was acquitted at the time.

Fahima's lawyer, Smadar Ben-Natan, told Army Radio that the Shabak is simply blackening her client's name because she refused to help them capture Zubeidi. "The GSS approached her and asked her to cooperate with them," said Ben-Natan. "Tali refused, and now they are spreading rumors about her."

Finkler also reports that Fahima is involved with left-wing activist groups, which even raised money for her defense on previous occasions.
