As upset as my mother was that I went to work at an automatic screw machine company when I got out of high school, I then joined the navy and was assigned to a guided missile frigate.
Poor mom, I'm not sure she ever understood that I didn't do it deliberately.
I didn't think I needed a sarcasm tag on that one.
Ok I agree for the most part, except subs are called 'boats' and you can't put a Boomer or Fast Attack sub on a Frigate Ship.
There must be some official Navy distinction? Or maybe subs are an exception??
Seems I remember a squid telling me that if its small enough to be loaded on a larger vessel the larger is a ship and smaller a boat.
George W Bush's plane was an F-102 single-seat pursuit plane.
I believe the swift boats are 50 footers. I've skiied behind a lot of boats, but never one that size.
Gives new meaning to the Double-Up
Submarines have always been called boats no matter how big they are.
General rule: If it's got more than one officer and it's not a sub, it's a ship. If it's got one (or fewer) officers, it's a boat.
I'm guessing that is the case because submarines were first used (routinely) in WWI by Germany. They were U-boats -- undersea boats. I'm guessing that "boat" became attached to them at that time. By other standards, they would be ships.
Dear Mr.Gardner,ThankYou for your service!Obviously, you volunteered for a second tour of duty.My cousin(Donald Ernest)joined The USMC in 1968.I was in school in London(at that time),but I corresponded with him regularly.when his tour ended in 1969,he signed up for another. He was in recon so he was in grave danger almost always. When I asked him why he signed up for a second tour he told me"Because My Buddies Are Over There"!!
Correct. Therefore using their logic, no one should be able to say anything regarding Bush's service.
By the same reasoning, no one should critique Iraq unless they were in the same room when the decision was made to go after Saddam.
I should clarify...I was posting Mr. Gardner's statement to disprove the idea that "none of these guys served on the same boat as Kerry." In fact, Mr. Gardner did serve alongside Kerry, like he said, "five feet away from him."
RIGHT ON!!!They Learned their "LYING CRAFT"under the tutelage of"The Great Prevaricator"(otherwise known asThe Great StainMaker)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely.
I was a tin can sailor; I just never cared for the idea of going on any ship that was supposed to sink.
A ship is a boat with more that Three masts. Old Navy tradition anyway.
Anything else is a boat.
Hey,You might be SURPRISED at what she has"In Her Pants"!
I know. Subs are called boats as well and the boomers are huge.
LOL
If you need some REAL firepower, why settle for twin 50's?Why not see if you can find an old quad 40 mount??
I'm a dumb USAF vet. They're all boats. Big boats and little boats.
