Combat with Najaf, the US army asks the Iraqis to evacuate the zone

The American army invited Tuesday civil Iraqi to evacuate without delaying the zone of the combat with Najaf and summoned the militiamans Shiites to leave the city where confrontations always made rage for the sixth consecutive day, according to a correspondent of the AFP.

American humvees circulated at the end of the morning in the city to require by loud-hailers of the population to evacuate without delay the zone of the engagements between the militiamans of the radical head Shiite Moqtada Sadr and the Iraqi police officers, supported by the American army, according to the correspondent.

It is the first time that the American army asks the population to evacuate the zone, according to inhabitants' of the city who fear an American offensive.

The Americans also invited the militiamans to deposit the weapons and to leave the Holy City Shiite, located at a hundred km in the south of Baghdad.

Must be time to take out the trash. Clean house. Give Sadr his last wish. Pray that this is it.

It's been decided by the Iraqis and our forces that Sadr must go.

Shootings of guns, mortars and of automatic weapons early burst this morning in the cemetery of the city, fortified town of the militiamans, before ceasing during approximately two hours and beginning again with force.

A thick column of black smoke rose in the downtown area, close to the mausoleum of the imam Ali, another fortified town of the militiamans. Many police officers, on board vans, moved to any pace towards this zone which was flown over by two American helicopters....

Actually, this sounds like a typical day in East St. Louis.

I'll bet you a can of Pabst that Sadr is not a target.

We are going to kill his army out from under him leaving him in the uncomfortable position of being a martyr wannabe.

He's going to wind up shamefully arrested, in prison.

Trouble is, the terrorists will shoot the civilians in the back as they leave and the New York Times will blame our soldiers. But, it has to be done anyway.

Yeah, you're probably right about that.

From the get-go, his "militia" has been ID'd as the prisoners released by Saddam as well as other neer-do-wells. Also that they're paid a couple hundred $$$ per month in U.S. dollars from Iran (that was reported by one of the Iraqi bloggers).

They don't seem to be the most well-trained forces either.

Waiting for sunset.

Yep. Lots of diversions during the day to keep 'em on edge and go in at night.
