Live! Nightline is doing a story on the Kerry Vietnam controversy. I notice the correspondent is Jake Tapper, formerly a liberal reporter for Salon. We'll see...
Things have not changed in 33 years.
In 1971 the MSM ignored the truth and listened to Kerry's lies.
In 2004 the MSM ignores the truth and listens to Kerry's lies.
It's almost as if the MSM hated us then, and they still hate us.
That's not their bag. They are 100% committed to screwing Bush, and only Bush.
Do you notice that he does not speak to Kerry's direct quotes but answers by speculating how what he said was not what Kerry really meant??

Kerrys Convention Speech Insulted Guard and Reserve Members
Anyone listening to local talk radio in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, on the Monday after the Democratic National Convention, might have sensed the tone of anger coming from local Vets and Troops of the Guard and Reserve. During one segment of a morning talk show, callers voiced their anger with Kerrys speech. The callers were angry with a statement that offended both troops, and their supporters alike.
The host had been mentioning part of the speech when the fireworks began. First, one caller who had an association with the National Guard, then others. And none seemed too pleased with the Flip Flop master. As a matter of fact, they were down right ticked off. After speaking with many who have served in the Guard and Reserves, I can assure you that the anger is wide spread.
The statement that offended so many who have served with honor?
And we will end the backdoor draft of National Guard and Reservists.
The line is in a portion of Kerrys speech where he refers to the military. Not the portion in which he refers to his service in Vietnam. Although I must admit that it would be a common guess since he announced that breaking information to us every two minutes of his droning 55 minute speech. Instead, it appeared in the portion where he suggested how he would handle current military situations.
When looking at the statement, one must wonder what, in the wide, wide world of French Euro trash, was Kerry thinking? Does part one of the John Johns not realize that the statement belittles many of those who serve and have served our great nation? Our troops of the Reserves and Guard have been much more than a backdoor draft in the war on terror. They have been honorable warriors who have helped protect our freedom and liberate millions from tyranny.
Kerrys intent was obvious. He thought that he could play on the emotions and stress of our troops who have been deployed over the past few years. The fact that Kerry would have that mind set is evidence that his intent was also insulting. Kerry should understand that our troops are as mentally tough as they are brave. They are not the types who sit around trying to figure out what opportunities will get them home in four months.
It is not just the line in his convention speech that has angered Guard and Reserve troops. It has been his whole attitude towards them. Kerry and his surrogates have had nothing good to say about President Bushs National Guard service. In statements referring to the Presidents hitch in the Air Guard, Kerrys surrogates have gone as far as to compare Vietnam era Guard service with actions some people took to avoid going to Vietnam.
Kerrys insulting statements about the National Guard show a lack of knowledge in regards to the capabilities of the that branch of the military. For example, we know that many Air Guard pilots went to Vietnam through the Palace Alert program. There is also the issue of F-102 pilots dying state side. It shows how fighter pilots need not go overseas to sacrifice their lives in defense of their nation. Then there is the fact that the National Guard has the front line combat units.
Kerry must also realize that service members need not be in a front line combat position, or even in a war time theater, to be considered brave. The simple fact that they would sign up for a career, in which they know very well that they could be sent into a war at any time, makes them all heroes. There were many soldiers who wanted to go to Vietnam, but were sent to Germany and other stations. That does not make their service less honorable.
Kerry has insulted our National Guard and Reserve troops. He has done this while playing politics and that is telling. Whats even more telling is Kerrys lack of knowledge in regards to Americas Active, Reserve, and National Guard military missions. Just more evidence of why John Kerry is unfit to be Commander in Chief.
Kerry has no GRAVITAS!
IMHO, I think it caused more pain for Bush than Kerry.
ABC ade it look like a dirty trick from TEXAS GOPers connected to Rove--"who also screwed McCain in SC." Then they found a liberal GOPer in CA to say that a fella who'd been shot at would be less like to rush to War-- dig at Bush on Iraq.
Then they showed more pro-Kerry vets than anti-Kerry vets. Then they had a lopsided final panel. Halberstam was given much more time, and he hit BC04 on Iraq and for not going to NAM.
All in all, it was really disgraceful!!
Anyone who has ever been afraid know exactly what Kerry was doing in Vietnam, the difference is, this guy chose a liars way out; that is his prerogative... and it is legitamate. What isn't legitimate is that he wants to now lead..... He didn't want to lead then.
Juan is a shameless prostitute for the Left-- it's hysterical to watch a man with zero dignity debate on tv.
John Heinz was in the Air National Guard. Let's let THK chew on that before she rips into President Bush's service to his country. Kerry and his ilk love to put down Bush for his service in the National Guard. Someone needs to remind him that THK's favorite husband did the same.
Most people under 45 know very little about the Vietnam war. It will be difficult to get them interested. The media and our education system have portrayed our involvement in much the same way as Kerry did in 1971.
That IS the Dem spin on all this. That the Swiftboat Vets are a GOP dirty trick.
Yeah, the guy paying all the bills for Mama T and Papa Botox was in the NG.
Bush is fighting the WOT. Kerry can refight Nam if he chooses. And good, brave men who remember what a dishonorable prick he was (and is) have every right to take the fight to him.
Yep, they don't want to deal with the facts. They don't want to investigate or do their jobs. It's a complete case of journalistic malpractice.
Thanks. That says it all. Another Ivy League commie.
Well, where was bobblehead?? and even he doesnt ask the good questions. We had some PC fill-in while Koppel was in France agreeing with the Frogs, so what did you expect? It was all softsoap stuff about loyalty to veterans--let's get over the vietnam war, blah blah--as if it was ever about that. A bulletin to those vets with twitches and bad teeth--the Kerry campaign needs you to say..er..whatever it tells you to!! I like the lead in to the piece inferring that the split in Swifties was roughly down the middle, pro and anti Kerry--not true. Gasp!! Didn't Mike Moore hit the nail on the noggin--those goofy few swifties and their ads were funded by the right-wing smear campaign!! That's where the Enron money went! Well, no surprise that the only 'real' politician interviewed was John mcCain, and he didnt mention the attack on Bushes record either. Yes, i'm still looking for Moore's right wing media bias. I think I'm gonna puke....
If you haven't been there yet, check out doug from upland's new DFU song (be sure to play the music!).
nightline is on your abc local channel
if you are on the left coast it doesn't come on here until 23:30 after the local news
Good night all...
Semper Fi,
Kelly
You're so right. They've gotten used to the idea that this guy is a bona fide war hero for the last thirty years. Just like the voters in Mass. thought Kerry was an Irish Catholic for 20 years. It's amazing how dishonest Kerry has been.
Why did those two guys shill for Kerry in '96? ABC loved showing them. What made them anti-Kerry now?
