Well.

I just posted a separate thread on the judge saying the two reporters, Cooper and Russert, must testify. Just reported that Cooper has been held in contempt.

I thought this development certainly deserved it's own thread in "breaking news".

Ping to the continuing Plame Name Blame Game saga!

We got us a reporter threatened with JAIL.

Since it's that Mandy Gruenwald's husband I can't say I'm shedding too many tears, though he's got a fine last name.

LOL

Even if they want to spill the beans in order to hurt the President, they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Releasing the names of their "sources" will ensure in the future that no one will ever speak to them again.

I can't believe any of these reporters would cover for the White House. Something smells. What about Novak?

I don't know if I like this, it smells as though they are propping up a big free speech defense which in the end he'll spill his leakee because "the issue of national security is so important to our country at this time."
"I must confess that I leaked this information to Dick Cheney"..

Then Cheney spends two weeks trying to deny the negative...

The media had taunted Bush to investigate this outrage against their Liberal friend.

Bush is giving them an investigation!! LOL

The tables have turned.

"Russert persecuted by covering for the White House. Film at eleven..." Poor Timmy. Stuck between a rock and hard place. To tell, or not to tell. Either way, he's hosed. Hahahahahahahahahahaha

(Then, it turns out the leaker is Joe Wilson - that would be REALLY funny)

Fitzgerald is investigating whether Bush administration officials knowingly leaked Plame's name to syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak last July.

You know, it so easy to figure out that the investigation is way beyond who said what to Novak. Is it laziness behind this constant misreporting?

Awright! Throw him in the clink and put panties on his head! That'll teach him.

(Unless he already knows how to put panties on his head.)

I wonder when we'll see a grand jury convened to investigate who leaked the name of the Al-Queda operative in Pakistan to the NY Times? Or, maybe a grand jury to prosecute Sandy Burglar? When pigs fly?

I think Wilson leaked his own wife's name and the journalist used the term "White House Sources" trying to get some Anti-Bush Conspiracy out there! The journalist won't talk or they can kiss all their credibility good-bye! Wilson had a book to write and he felt it should be spiced up a bit with a little conspiracy but he probably never thought it would get this far.

Perhaps the reporter won't spill the beans because then it will be revealed that the source was NOT the White House!

Novack was the one who wrote the original story. Novack was the one who 'acquired' the name and published it.

Russert is kind of a secondary player. IIRC, he interviewed Novack when the name was first published.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/09/29/novak.cia/

"Nobody in the Bush administration called me to leak this," Novak said on "Crossfire." "There is no great crime here."

Novak said Monday that he was working on the column when a senior administration official told him the CIA asked Wilson to go to Niger in early 2002 at the suggestion of his wife, whom the source described as "a CIA employee working on weapons of mass destruction."

Another senior administration official gave him the same information, Novak said, and the CIA confirmed her involvement in her husband's mission.

In his column, Novak attributed the information about Plame's involvement in Wilson's trip to Africa to two unnamed senior administration officials.

A reporter is being held in contempt of court and faces possible jail time, and another was earlier threatened by a federal judge with the same fate, after they refused to answer questions from a special prosecutor investigating whether administration officials illegally disclosed the name of a covert CIA officer last year.

Actually they are investigation to see if any govt. official leaked the info.. Nice jab at the "administration" though. Makes it sound like the lamestream reporters are protecting the Bush Admin..

The DUmmies have been following the Plame affair closely for weeks. They expect Cheney and/or Bush will be named as the leaks and thus be incriminated.

Won't it be deliciously ironic if it turns out to be a liberal who tried to frame the current administration?

I thought it was settled law that the courts can't require reporters to reveal their sources. I thought that was the legacy of the Pentagon Papers case.

Cooper got real bad luck drawing Judge Hogan. That is a jurist that does not fool around.
