House Republicans view a recent move by 11 Democrats to have United Nations observers monitor U.S. elections as a politically motivated stunt, and last week they moved to nip the idea in the bud.

Apparently it's a done deal.

In a letter dated July 30 and released last week, Assistant Secretary of State Paul Kelly told the Democrats about the invitation to OSCE, without mentioning the U.N. issue.

"I am pleased that Secretary Powell is as committed as I am to a fair and democratic process," said Democratic Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas, who spearheaded the effort to get U.N. observers.

"The presence of monitors will assure Americans that America cares about their votes and it cares about its standing in the world," she said in a news release.

This is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous!

I am going to make my opinion known here in Texas.

President Bush had better come out and demand they stay out of our country.

America is truly the last beacon of freedom in the world..and this proves it.

The crooks and sleaze of the UN would love to squash freedom forever.

If I were W, I'd issue an executive order to evacuate the UN building, and within 6 months have it demolished. Then I'd dedicate the land to fallen US soldiers who died serving our country overseas. Sorry for the rant, but the UN really twists my shorts. They are a band of countries, most of whom who represent dicatorships, and are a bunch of crooks. These bastards don't even pay their dues. THE US supports these pricks, and the rest have a real attitude problem (with a few exceptions).

Yes it is a publicity stunt, but the GOP should take advantage and turn right back on the Dems. Put the monitors at the sites with historically the highest rate of problems, which 90%+ will be in Dem precincts.

What's new?

Partisian ploys often end up in partisian clashes.

I would have had the UN building demolished a long time ago. Turn it into a parking lot.
