TURKEY: Raped teen killed to restore honour -
Posted Fri, 30 Apr 2004
Ignoring the pleas of his 14-year-old daughter to spare her life, Mehmet Halitogullari pulled on a wire wrapped around her neck and strangled her supposedly to restore the family's honour after she was kidnapped and raped.
Nuran Halitogullari, buried on Thursday in a ceremony attended by women's rights advocates, is the latest victim of a long history of "honour killing" which the Turkish government is struggling to curb.
Newspapers said Halitogullari was abducted in Istanbul on her way back from a trip to the supermarket and raped over six days.
She was rescued by police and returned to her family.
The murder came to light this week but it was not clear when it took place.
In a confession, Mehmet Hatipogullari told police that he and other relatives allegedly took the girl to an aunt's home where he strangled her, ignoring her pleas and her cries, Sabah news service said.
"I decided to kill her because our honour was dirtied," Sabah quoted the father as saying. "I didn't listen to her pleas, I wrapped the wire around her neck and pulled at it until she died." He said he buried her body beneath a chicken coop, which upset his other children, and later buried her in a forest.
Sabah said Halitogullari also planned to kill his daughter's rapist.
On Wednesday, authorities charged two brothers with murder after they shot their sister in the head in her hospital bed, as she was recovering from an earlier attack by them. The 22-year-old woman mother was shot for having a child out of wedlock.
Last year, a pregnant woman who was reportedly stoned to death by her family after having an affair was buried in a pauper's grave after her family refused to bury her.
Coming soon to France, Canada and Belgium.
Of course, this is simply "multi-culturalism."
Are you Islamophobic?
compassion-a religion of the devil-much prayer is needed
Those fun Muslims. Such kind, compassionate, warm, loving humanists.
Of course, this was all George Bush's fault. If only we hadn't "invaded" Iraq and Afghanistan, she would still be alive and virginal.
Ahh. This is religion at its best. I really can't believe that people call Islam a religion
Any particular reason to suppose it'll come to Canada any sooner than to the US? Nevermind answering, that was a rheotorical question.
So the Turkish Government is "struggling to curb" this murderous practice. Perhaps stringing up the fathers and brothers and others who do this to their female relatives would get the attention of these creeps.
And I will be patiently waiting for a statemnet from NOW and Gloria Allred regarding this.
PS. And this is from one of the most civilized nation in the Moslem sphere.
This will undoubtedly infuriate the leftists far more than his adherence to the "religion of peace" killing of his daughter.
A couple have happened in Toronto already. When a woman's life is only worth as much as the market value of her 'untouched' state, as if she were livestock or merchandise, there is something evil and ungodly at work. I wonder how many microseconds the 'honour' arguement will hold up on judgement day?
Murderers....
And now , the lefty press will tell me to UNDERSTAND these barbarians.
Yep, people who think this way should be cleansed from the gene pool.
Coming soon to a neighborhood near you!
These females are "damaged goods" and some cultures handle it a little differently than we do. Think of it as .....cultural diversity. Who are we to judge?- tom
I'm basically convinced that the bulk of the Islamic world is "damaged goods", and maybe some MOABs or strategic nukes could give them enough "cultural diversity" to reevaluate their "peaceful religion".
Gee, maybe all the Palestinians should be raped.
Aren't the Turks usually help up as an example of "Moderate Muslims?"
