When the Dixie Chicks made their snide comment about President Bush, hundreds if not thousands of people lined up at radio stations across America to dump their Dixie Chicks CD's.
Let's face it, artists are paid to entertain us, they are the jesters of society and true they are allowed to have a personal opinion, they should keep their opinion to themselves and not use their social position to promote their idealology. We all have an opion but few of us have a sounding board to share our opinion with thousands of people.
Some folks commented that dumping their Chicks CD's did little good since the Chicks already made their royalty from the sale. I find alot of truth in that. Giving it a bit more thought, I've decided that a better solution would be to sell those CD's, DVD's and related items via Ebay and other outlets and donate the proceeds to the folks that these jesters are opposing.
In the case of Moveon.org and Bruce Springsteen and his list of Bush hating cronies, I've decided to go thru my stack of CD's and weed out those by Dave Matthews, James Taylor, Pearl Jam, the Dixie Chicks, John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne and who ever else I find on the list of jesters. All the proceeds will go directly to the Republican party. If you can't find it in yourself to dump those CD's, then make duplicates on your CD burner to keep and dump the originals.
How many folks feel that this is a viable protest? Is it worthy of a website? Anyone care to collect and list all those jesters who are using their position and influence to promote their personal agenda? Thoughts?
Great idea and bump to the thread.
Great idea! Let me know if you need a hand getting the website up.
Great idea.
After you sell an artist's goods, be sure to notify them that they're supporting the GOP, NRA, et.al.
And it's not censorship, we're just won't buying the latest R.E.M CD. Or Dave Matthews, Jackson Browne, Patti Smith....
David Byrne's another one. But give him a break, he wrote a great T. Heads song, "Making Flippy Floppy." The perfect campaign theme song for John/John
Carry signs at the concerts saying SHUT UP AND SING!!!!
I am ashamed Maines was born in America. I had a CD by the disty twits prior to the fat girl's rude verbal tirade against President Bush. Upon hearing of this incident, I went to my garage picked up my sledge hammer and dixied the CD. It's an Alabama thing, liberals-commies will never understand. Bush/Cheney 2004
The problem is there is not draft and nobody is asking them to put their lilly white butts on the line.
I was listening to XM 40 today and they where playing a bunch of anti war stuff, sat there and listen to it and realized it is very dated without the draft.
