Bush: Raise (Immigration) Limit for Mexico
The Washington Times ^ | 08-07-2004 | Bill Sammon

Posted on 08/07/2004 2:27:23 PM PDT by NewRomeTacitus

President Bush yesterday called on Congress to increase the number of Mexican immigrants allowed into the United States.

"I support raising the quotas on certain population groups, like the Mexican nationals, on who can become a citizen. In order to solve the logjam for citizenship, Congress has got to raise the quotas."

Having long sought to grant legal status to illegal aliens from Mexico, the president said yesterday that the only way to enact his plan is to allocate more legal-immigration slots to Mexicans.

"The issue there is whether or not people automatically get to step in the front of the line when it comes to citizenship," he said. "I don't think they should. I think those who have been waiting in line to be a citizen ought to be allowed to keep that priority in line."

Mr. Bush did not explain how non-Mexican applicants for U.S. residency would keep their place in line if the quota for Mexican immigrants is enlarged. Nor did he quantify his proposed enlargement for Mexicans, who already far outnumber immigrants from every other nation.

The president's plan to relax immigration rules, which is unpopular among many conservatives, entails granting legal status to millions of Mexicans who break the law to enter the United States. Mr. Bush shuns the term "amnesty," preferring to call it the matching of "willing workers with willing employers."

"People ought to be allowed to be here legally to work. That's what I believe. This will help bring people out of the shadows of our society. This will help, kind of, legalize a system that takes place every day, without employers...or employees feeling like they're going to be arrested, subjected to fines," he added.

Why do you insist that I must hate xxxxxx or xxxxxxx. Having no respect and/or no admiration for someone is much different than hating them.

He can't be a racist! That's what he insists everyone else is. But he is good with the BS, you should admire that.

This is the final straw. I cannot vote for this man.

Who is the alternative?? I don't like this either , at all!! Living in Los Angeles, we are a " little Mexico" right here. However I will take Bush over Kerry any day. Also voting for anyone else, will put Kerry in the White House, something America cannot risk. WRITE YOUR SENATORS and let them know we need closed borders!!!

You seem fixed on painting anyone who dissagrees with you on open illegal immigration as some kind of bigoted loser.

You are wrong, and I will not be silenced by your lame and unethical PC tactics.

I don't "fear" illegal immigrants, I despise and routinely denounce them as the criminals they are.
If they are such sterling examples of perfect manhood, why then do they leave their helpless wives and children to the mercy of a corrupt government, to come here and increase prostitution and sex crime rates?

The USA has long had an underclass, due to poverty, and that was bad enough. It sometimes shrinks, and sometimes grows, but the "war on poverty" is ongoing.
Add in an intentionally courted, imported criminal male poverty class, and watch us all go to hell.

I do not apologize for telling you, the spiritual cousin of every slave owner who ever lived, to go straight to hell!
Seal the borders and bring back Ellis Island.
Legal immigrants to the USA? Welcome, with open arms.
Slaves seeking temporarily better servitude conditions-no thanks, and no welcome is forthcoming.
We rid ourselves from slavery several generations ago.
That you seem incapable of understanding that allowing the economic based importation of a new class of "illegal slaves" will ruin this country does not surprise or shock me.
What will someday shock you is the entirely predictable and perfectly natural bloody human backlash to the insanity you seem to advocate:
That the very foundation of our nation, our laws, are not applicable to all of us, only selectively enforced, and only for the benefit of a few selected elite.
You are seriously lacking in the study of Human history if you think the status quo will last much longer in the USA.
A country with roots tracing back to the most adventurous and brightest of the populations of all the other nations of the world!
No, I don't think your wish for the wide acceptance of a slave class mentality will be realized in the USA.
Many millions of people throughout the world still dream of coming to the USA, and joining us.
To those people, I extend both hands in welcome, not to your new house slave.

>>WRITE YOUR SENATORS and let them know we need closed borders!!!<<
$ years of writing the President, his wife, Tom Ridge, Rumney, and all 50 SENATORS has gotten us to the point where we are now.

Any other suggestions? Perhaps something that will bring the desired results?

Apparently you haven't noticed that Prop 187 passed easily in one of the most liberal states in the nation. The vast majority of Americans want illegal immigration STOPPED, and want illegals to get off the welfare teat.

"Legal immigrants to the USA? Welcome, with open arms. "

Then you should support President Bushes proposals for reform of the immigration laws. Or are you just using the "illegal" argument because you are ashamed to state your real reasons for opposing immigrant laborers?

That's why President Bush has proposed immigration reform. If "illegality" is your real objection, then you should support President Bush's proposals to make them legal.

"I guess we could make bank robbery legal so that we wouldn't feel the need to hate bank robbers... "

Are you unable to distinguish between bank robbers and people who are willing to do the dirty, low paying jobs that Americans won't do?

Do you hate everyone who violates any law, rule or regulation equally? People who speed, drive while drinking, carry fire arms into national foprests, violate EPA, URISA, IRS, ADA, EEOA, etc... laws?

Thank you for remembering my favorite topic of littering.

Coronado National Forest - four miles north of the border. Just one of dozens of similar photogenic delights throughout the hiking trails of the Huachuca Mountains.

"I support raising the quotas on certain population groups, like the Mexican nationals, on who can become a citizen.

Good idea. Bring in more people who will need government assistance (sarcasm off).

Link to FAIR's data on immigrants and sky-rocketing medical cost

(snippet)

One out of every four uninsured people in the United States is an immigrant.

When the 3.5 million immigrants receiving insurance through publicly funded Medicaid are factored in, almost half of immigrants have either no insurance or have it provided to them at taxpayers' expense.

In some hospitals, as much as two-thirds of total operating costs are for uncompensated care for illegal aliens.

Although a national total of annual unreimbursed medical expenses for illegal aliens is not available, it is clear that those costs are more than one billion dollars, given estimates for Texas ($393 million), Los Angeles ($350 million), Florida ($40 million), and U.S.-Mexico border counties ($300 million).

The problem is on the rise: Immigrants (legal and illegal) who arrived between 1994 and 1998 and their children accounted for 59 percent of the growth in the size of the uninsured population in the last ten years.

(end of snippet)

IMO, President Bush may be just pandering to the so-called Hispanic group. Or maybe he just wants the a cheap, subsidized work force. Either way he's lucky the democrats are just plain worst on this issue.
