Bush: Raise (Immigration) Limit for Mexico
The Washington Times ^ | 08-07-2004 | Bill Sammon

Posted on 08/07/2004 2:27:23 PM PDT by NewRomeTacitus

President Bush yesterday called on Congress to increase the number of Mexican immigrants allowed into the United States.

"I support raising the quotas on certain population groups, like the Mexican nationals, on who can become a citizen. In order to solve the logjam for citizenship, Congress has got to raise the quotas."

Having long sought to grant legal status to illegal aliens from Mexico, the president said yesterday that the only way to enact his plan is to allocate more legal-immigration slots to Mexicans.

"The issue there is whether or not people automatically get to step in the front of the line when it comes to citizenship," he said. "I don't think they should. I think those who have been waiting in line to be a citizen ought to be allowed to keep that priority in line."

Mr. Bush did not explain how non-Mexican applicants for U.S. residency would keep their place in line if the quota for Mexican immigrants is enlarged. Nor did he quantify his proposed enlargement for Mexicans, who already far outnumber immigrants from every other nation.

The president's plan to relax immigration rules, which is unpopular among many conservatives, entails granting legal status to millions of Mexicans who break the law to enter the United States. Mr. Bush shuns the term "amnesty," preferring to call it the matching of "willing workers with willing employers."

"People ought to be allowed to be here legally to work. That's what I believe. This will help bring people out of the shadows of our society. This will help, kind of, legalize a system that takes place every day, without employers...or employees feeling like they're going to be arrested, subjected to fines," he added.

I am a proud supporter of Pat Buchanan's views, and I plan to vote for Bush. Leave Pat out of this. What's a Puke, anyway?

You got it -- and none of the labels came from Safeway.

There is a related problem. This area has a large black bear and mountain lion population that is rapidly losing all fear of humans. Backpack = picnic basket.

"If you bought a movie ticket and was waiting on a very long line and someone CUT in front of you and got in the theater for free would you be upset? "

I wouldn't whine, cry, curse President Bush and vote for John Kerry. Have you tried holding your breath until President Bush agrees to imprison all Mexicans?

GWB ran on a platform which included amnesty for illegal aliens...GWB has never wavered from this stance.
Many Republicans voted for him anyways, myself included.
I vehemently disagree with POTUS on this issue, just as I disagreed with him on CFR.
It would be in error to say that I support POTUS on everything. And most certainly on this issue.
I am liable to vote for a divided senate, to ensure that GWB can't cram this particular atrocity on the public.
I am seemingly one of the few.I trust GWB to do what he states he intends to do.
I will continue to try to change his mind on this topic.
He is wrong, IMNSHO.
And if need be, I will vote in a divided congress, so he is stymied on this issue.
I will vote for GWB, and I will also make clear to him it is despite his stance on this issue, and he would be wise to learn more and renounce his stance.
He may well lose the upcoming election due to it, along with his insane signing of CFR, and if he actively tries to extend the unconstitutional 50mm ban.
That would be a shame on one hand, but OTOH, it might just hasten the inevitable revolutionary chaos simmering deep in the heartlands of the USA.

"President Bush yesterday called on Congress to increase the number of Mexican immigrants allowed into the United States."

Why can't this guy get it???

NOBODY here wants more immigrants - especially from Islmaic Countries, and from Latin-American Countries.

I haven't anything particular against Hispanics except they are flooding the Country. If any other ethnic group poured into this country like Latin Americans are doing now, 50 years ago, they would have been stopped at the borders with machine guns.

They have invaded entire cities, turning major American metropolises into clones of South America. There are places here where you can't go anywhere and not see all advertising and signage in Spanish.

This isn't "immigration", it's invasion.

We've had ENOUGH!! Enough with the bilingual crap, ENOUGH with affirmative action and special priviledges for people from Latin America who weren't even born here and get preference over native born Americans.

I detect the fine hand of Carl Rove here again, screwing things up - attempting to pander to the Latin American vote.

If there is ONE ISSUE which keeps this President from getting re-elected, it will be this insane, lunatic, self-destructive drive, to "de-Anglicize" America by opening the floodgates from Mexico.

Bush should have callouses on his knees by now from kowtowing to Vicente Fox.

I've had it.

The BAD news is that if Kerry gets in, it will be even WORSE.

I think its about time for another "Nativist" political party here.

"I am a proud supporter of Pat Buchanan's views, and I plan to vote for Bush.

Pat Buchanan has devoted the last five years to getting revenge for President Bush defeating him in the Republican primary. His strategy is to appeal to racists and xenophobes.

Remember his ad about a man dieing because the operator was bilingual? He wasn't trying to appeal to a majority in order to win, he was trying to appeal to what he incorrectly believed was a substantial percentage of conservatives who subscribed to his racists views.

He was wrong. .004 of the vote proved that there is no correlation between conservatism and racism. But Buchanan is so convinced that all conservatives are as racists as he is, that he continues his racists attacks on President Bush. Only now he uses front men like Tancredo.

I seriously doubt that you are a racists. Take another look at Buchanan.

The Assault Rifle Ban also exposes Bush for what he REALLY is - a "moderate".

He'll get my vote and support - reluctantly and only because the alternative is all the more frightful.

And here we are once again, having to choose the lesser of two evils, instead a great man, like Ronald Reagan.

You may want to check the position of your Democrat Senate (and Congress) candidate and compare them to the Republican candidates.

A "xenophobe" is someone who fears or hates strangers or foreigners. If you hate or are afraid of immigrants because you think they are criminals, taking jobs away from you, littering, stealing from you, diluting your culture, destroying our infrastructure, etc.. then you fit the definition.

Using your definition, every country in the world is xenophobic.

Howlin, don't even try to whitewash GWBs stance on illegal immigration!
He has never once wavered from it!
I admire him for his convictions, even though I think he is dead wrong.
Bush is pushing for amnesty, particularly for Mexican illegals.
Deal with it, but by God don't expect anyone to turn a blind eye to it!

If "illegality" is your real objection, then you should support President Bush's proposals to make them legal.

My real objection is with President Bush's proposal to reward illegal aliens for violating our immigration laws.
