Parsons Takes Shot at Fox
By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 8/6/2004 2:22:00 PM
Time Warner Inc. chairman Dick Parsons Friday described Fox News Channel as "crazy people exchanging views," telling a group of minority journalists in Washington he felt that the channel and his own Cable News Network are two different services.
When asked by Univision Anchor Jorge Ramos why CNN was losing the ratings battle with Fox, he was not ready to concede that. He said that Fox was more like talk radio on TV, which meant that its viewers stayed longer because people tended to "come and sit down for an hour or two and listen to crazy people exchange views." CNN actually draws more viewers, he said, but said they were grazers who didn't stay long.
Parsons said he did not feel CNN was liberal, but instead has a bias for the truth. He conceded that journalists are often perceived as liberal because they tend to challenge the establishment. He did not make an overt comparison with Fox, but he did say that his news operation "does not give a corporate slant to its journalism. We don't tell them how to report."
This statement means that CNN cannot find a way to beat FOX News. Desperation from the LEFT is pretty to see.
Maybe instead of babyish attacks, he should apologize for his networks liberal, pro-democrat bias, and say he will work to fix it. Then maybe he'll start getting viewers back.
Dickie calls his few viewers Cows?
Lemme guess. The "mouth of the south" has been replaced by "the mouth of the north". Wish someone would drop a double wide on one and a Cape Code style on the other.
Challenge the establishment?? Only if the 'establishment' has a Republican president. When there's a democRAT in, they lick his boots.
"journalists are often perceived as liberal because they tend to challenge the establishment."
What a joke! I remember watching CNN in the 1996 election year and they never challenged clinton on anything. Everything was "The economy is booming", "Dole is negative". If you read Bernard Goldberg's "Bias", you know what I'm talking about. Poverty seemed to dissapear from the presses eye when clinton became president, then reappeared when the republicans regained the white house it came back as the big issue.
Speaking of the establishment... if they challenge the establishment, then why have they never done a critical peice on hollywood, or on public education?
Within the past week have heard anchors make off color remarks about Bush while on the air. Could tell where their bias was. What the he** are they talking about..? Pot calling the kettle black.
I don't mind watching Paula Zahn. I just keep the sound off.
Parsons is FOS!
Well said...1993-2001 all they did was lay in bed with Slick and Hillary. When the Dems had all of Washington, they thought it was the best thing since hot cereal. What a weenie.
As for Fox, they are pretty worthless these days. Just commie lite.
Lately Fox has been giving them all the ammunition they need to get beat. They have been so biased toward Kerry that I can't stand to watch them anymore.
"As for Fox, they are pretty worthless these days. Just commie lite."
Nah. It is frustrating that they don't cover every story good for conservatives, but at least americans are finally getting both sides of the story. They still do a very good job representing the conservative point of view on things like abortion, homeschooling, under g-d in the pledge, gay marriage, etc...
Meanwhile, at Netscape, they are still showing as their main headline the beheading of the San Francisco man (NOT that it is a hoax) Netscape gets their headlines from CNN, who, 4 hours after everyone here knew it was a hoax, still is treating it as real news.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.......this guy should go on "Last Comic Standing"!
Since when has reporting what the enemy is doing being BIASED ?
Pay attention not only to what is being reported but HOW its being reported kerry is no friend to FOX and i would venture to say FOX is no friend to Kerry
Yes people who go to CNN are grazing, but I guess they don't like the buffet choices over there. Imagine that. For once I agree with CNN's leadership.
CNN is basicly the sanitized version of A.N.S.W.E.R., they believe in the same things, they just couch their beliefs a little better.
Ash heap of history, get ready for your next arrival.
'Grazed' over to CNN yesterday morning just in time to see the business guy and the resident curmudgeon go into a fit of the vapors over the jobs numbers - lead in "Wow, this is bad news for the administration...bad...really bad..." (paraphrase) and then for a couple of minutes waxing psuedo-agonizingly on how bad it was and numerous references to what the democrats could do with the news (hint! hint!).
(BTW, for a real analysis of the numbers, see the superb and succinct explanation by John Armor (CongerssmanBillyBob) here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1186947/posts
The Fox these gas bags need to take 'a shot' at is the one S.O.B. ....SOB (South of the Border)
