Lori's outraged father lashes out

''Monstrous act'': In a statement, Hareld Soares decries the tragic death of his daughter, his son-in-law's lies and cowardice, says he seeks justice, not vengeance

Four days after his wife vanished, Mark Hacking wrapped his large arms around his father-in-law's small frame and promised he wasn't responsible.

Now, believing his daughter's body is among thousands of tons of waste paper, plastics and rotting food, Hareld Soares is lashing out at his son-in-law.

"As the facts about my little girl's death emerge, I am outraged," Soares said in a statement Friday. "The innumerable lies she was told by her husband for years on end were selfish and shameful. The cowardly way in which she and her baby were brutally murdered in cold blood while she slept is despicable."

Police allege Mark Hacking, 28, killed his wife, Lori, in the early morning hours of July 19 and threw her body into a Dumpster, the contents of which were discarded at the Salt Lake County landfill that afternoon.

For the seventh night in two weeks, detectives on Friday scoured a two-acre plot of the landfill, searching with cadaver dogs for any sign of her body.

"The gutless attempt at covering up this monstrous act is appalling. It is difficult to imagine a more disrespectful way of disposing of her remains. No family should have to lose a daughter and sister this way," said Soares, a teacher from Fullerton, Calif.

That was my thought, too, Hank. I can't imagine the horror of waking up in pain, and seeing that it's your loved one causing it--indeed, seeing the murderous look in those eyes. Her dad is right. He's a murdering coward. (Remember, the lies were originally constructed to hide the fact that he didn't measure up to the rest of his family--another proof of cowardice.)

I hope they manage to do this. Note: I do not really expect Mark to ever do the decent thing--he's not a decent human being. The only consideration he gives is to himself.

I watched a portion of the Cosby show on its rerun a couple of hours later. She does seem pretty sure that's how it's going to go down. On the other hand, she could be hearing from family members who are simply hoping that's how it will be.

"It is a sport."

Exactly so! In fact, I have found fault with both the prosecution and the defense side of the law.

For instance, in Oklahoma City, we had a D.A. who had an incredible run of wins. In fact, it was so incredible, that it turns out to have been an issue of manufacturing the evidence to suit the DA's theory. Some 15-20 people were finally released when DNA evidence proved that they did not--could not--commit the crimes.

Some had spent as long as 17 years in prison, and of those, most had done hard time because they would neither confess nor repent the crimes they didn't commit in the first place. (In this state, you get certain perks if you confess and repent.) Even worse, there are rumors that there were more who were wrongly put to death--but they refused to comment on that.

Then there's the other side of this: the lawyers who, in the course of doing their duty, twist the facts around and sweet-talk a jury into letting a guilty person go.

Still, I don't know of an alternative, workable system. Trial by media isn't much of an alternative; neither, I suppose, is trial by Freepers.

Encouraging news! I wonder if LE collected enough blood to verify Lori was pregnant? If so, and it sounds like it's a possibility, that ought to assist in Mark pleading guilty.

And I'm sure you're right about all info LE has; as usual, I bet there's alot more to this story than we have heard so far. Reason for murder has more to do with pregnancy than this deal about him (unsuccesfully) competing with siblings-my guess anyway...

"Oh Fox, Mark wants us to think the murder wasn't as heinous, since he killed her while she was asleep. She just didn't wake up. That's where he is going with this one, if he STILL admits to it."

ie., Mark wants people to think that it takes A REAL man to kill a woman in her sleep (rolls eyes) plus his insanity defense. He's scum like any other scum.

Agree. Maybe Scum Mark thought it sounded more humane (rolling my eyes) to say he shot her in the head, a swift execution.

I just don't believe anything he says. Who can?
