When it comes to toeing the Dem line, NBC's Campbell Brown takes a back seat to no one, including Katie Couric.
Filling in for Al-Kaety today, Brown did her best Terry McAuliffe impersonation. Interviewing Tim Russert, Brown showed a clip from the swift boat veterans' TV commercial in which a number of Kerry's fellow veterans question his honesty and integrity.
Campbell was utterly disinterested in whether the charges are true. Indeed, she effectively seemed to presume the falseness of the allegations.
She observed to Russert: "Republican Sen. John McCain says the ad is dishonest and dishonorable." She then asked: "Should the Bush campaign be doing the same thing?"
Was the ad factual? Campbell could care less. Bush must apologize!
Brown then got an answer she surely didn't want when discussion turned to Kerry's attack on W for not immediately leaving the elementary school classroom when informed of the second 9/11 plane attack. She observed: "Kerry has faulted Bush for a scene people are familiar with from Fahrenheit 911." NBC then displayed Rudy Giuliani's response: "Kerry must be frustrated if he is campaigning based on cues from Michael Moore."
Russert's response: "I'm surprised that Kerry raised it. He might be preaching to the choir. I'm not sure how it will play with independents." When someone in Russert's position says he was "surprised," you know it means that he thought it was a mistake.
Campbell concluded by asking Russert who won the week.
Russert: "What happpened after the Dem convention was that everything froze after the terror alerts. People in both camps believe any time you're talking about terror rather than the economy, it's a plus for the Bush campaign."
Probably mistook him for Randy Weaver's son.
I refuse to believe that any liberal could ever be that adorable.
Yes. I agree. That's the part of this incident which has value, not, as some seem to be saying, that this was equivalent to the murder of an innocent. If the kid was shooting at us, he was a combatant pure and simple, and should have been shot, running or not.
Take a Google search this Friday a.m. of American news articles on the John Kerry Swift Boat issue appearing this morning:

Sheesh, it's nearly 1/3rd "Sen. McCain..this and that" either in the headlines or in the first few paragraphs. Rather than the seriousness of the charges, the nature of the charges themselves. The lib press is so blatant.
Of course, they cannot allow this to grow legs, because it will indict the press as not having done their job, i.e., in researching this, months and years ago. So defacto, not only wanting to defeat Bush, they need to save their own face in the whole rotten thing, by causing it to "disappear" just as they did with Sandy Berger's crimes and the Kerry Staff Sex Scandal.
That is the real issue today.
Let's look at what happened. The "kid" shot at them with a rocket. That means two things for sure. One, he was an enemy combatant. Two, he had an empty rocket tube. The swiftboat gunner returned fire with a .50 cal machine gun. According to the vet on Hannity the "kid" was hit in the legs and hurt pretty badly. Then Kerry, the commander of the boat, brought the boat to shore and personally went after the "kid." He caught up with him and killed him.
He killed an unarmed injured combatant. Not good, he should have captured him, but so what? Meanwhile his boat and crew were grounded on the shore waiting for their commander to return after having taken fire. Sitting ducks.
And Kerry puts himself in for a medal for that? He should have been courts martialed or at least severely reprimanded for endangering his crew.
As far as John McCain defending John Kerry against the SwiftVets ad, left's not forget one thing. That is IF John Kerry is elected, John McCain will probably be his Secretary of Defense (and this will be the closest McCain ever gets to the oval office). So John McCain has more than just a passing interst in this whole ordeal. It is in both Kerry and McCain's best interest to see this whole ordeal go away as quickly as possible. Personally, I don't see how John McCain can even look at the creep without wanting to knock his d$ck stiff after what Kerry did to our boys that were still fighting in Nam in 1971. Don't forget, while McCain was rotting in the Hanoi Hilton Hilton, the Communist Vietnamese were reading every word to our POW's that traitor John kerry was saying about them and the war. That was their biggest weapon against the POW's (demoralizing them). John Kerry is a traitor, and I for one as a veteran will do everything that I can to see that the REAL truth is told about this Marxist creep. He is not worthy to lead this great nation.

Russert said that Kerry cannot agree to eliminating all 527 ads along with the President because it would leave him "dark" for the month -- he has to wait to spend his $75 million.
It was blatant cheerleading for Kerry. Disgusting. Kerry is free as the wind to condemn all 527s and spend his $75 million at any rate he pleases.
LOL. Good one. Works on a lot of levels.
McCain is the Kerry of the republicans.
Check out his record. Flip flops galore, and he'll say anything for publicity.
I wish any of the swift boat vets would just say, if Kerry is telling the truth, release his medical records. THey've yet to make this point on FOX, CNN or NBC last night or this morning.
Use the L-word, because if you don't...
The economic numbers today are just horrendous...uttter devastation for Bush today.
Just horrid.
I pray they pick up the day after Dubya's speech and show some huge hirings.
If not, we are IN TROUBLE.
If the kid was shooting at us, he was a combatant pure and simple, and should have been shot, running or not.
",,,Kerry was stupid to bring Vietnam up..."
Murder will out.
I sometimes thing McCain only doesn't become a DemocRAT because he thinks he can do more damage from inside, as a Republican.
Yes, probably leading to more dangerous missions in the near future. An aspiring young politician can't afford such risks.
Simple. Free speech is for democRATs; rules of decency, propriety and fair play are for Republicans.
C-SPAN ran the debate in its entirety a month or two ago. O'Neill ripped Kerry a new one on the facts, but Kerry had the sympathy of the audience and of the times.
I don't expect that the Kerry Campaign will let O'Neill get within a mile of Kerry this year, but it'll be interesting to see what happens with the book.
