This has been one of my mantras since I arrived at FR in '97 ('96?). Holding rallies, working to get candidates elected, etc., is of immediate importance, but until we solve the media prejudice issue, we will always be pushing that boulder up the hill only to have it roll back down on us the moment our attention is diverted.
Liberals have to rely on propaganda and intimidation, in the media, in education, in unions, etc., to maintain control. They know it is the mothers milk of their effectiveness. Conservatives, if we are ever to achieve a lasting ascendancy and eliminate liberalism as a significant cultural influence, must understand that a long term plan on confronting and overcoming this challenge must be put in place or we will always just come up short of our goals.
Do you think Clinton would have been re-elected, Hillary still sitting in the Senate, Gore almost winning in '00 and sKerry this close in '04 if it wasn't for the lapdog media who decides not only what information is disseminated, but as important, what isn't and how and where it is presented?
People say we have Fox News. Fox News does very well and beats the other cable stations, but when you add up the numbers for the others all together, they beat Fox. And, they still got Rather, Brokaw and Jennings. They still have the NY/LA Times and magazines. They still got our universities, our unions, our entertainment industry (an information dissemination industry all it's own). Yes, we got the internet, but it pales to the competitions advantage.
I'm not going to present a plan, I have my own ideas and am working on some of them. I'd like to hear what the FReepers have to say and what ideas you have, and, how far you are willing to go.
Yes, NY Times is publicly traded, and valued at over 6 billion dollars. I don't think we have that kind of change in our pockets
Yes.... the reasoning of a two year old. O'Reilly is a loud, sophomoric simpleton!!!
Lasting ascendancy is impossible. Prevailing political sentiment swings left and right with the passing of generations. Enjoy our time on top, work to prolong it if you can, but don't make the mistake of thinking that you can break the natural political cycle.
Truer words were never sais. I fear for this country when the media is this outrightly unfair and biased, AND, most Americans really don't understand the severeness of the problem. This country is over!!! This incident (The Swift Boat Vets being ignored and torn apart by the media) proves it!
I agree. The media is almost always our enemy. But things have come a long way since I started paying attention in the early eighties. There is much to be done, but the momentum is in our favor. And thank God for the net.
I dunno how many patients rooms I've gone into over the last 15 years...and have them tuned into the talk shows during the day, and the nightly lying news at night.
And that folks is the truth.
The easily lead, are in fact running this country thru their sheeple like sorry lifes.......
God help us,,,,,,,,
Uh, did you folks think the Judy Woodruffs would suddely shout "I'm in SHOCK! I had no IDEA Kerry was inflating his resume! We must join hands and investigate this!" ?
The SwiftBoat vets have made the very first strike in the real campaign. This reaction should have been predicted by us all--I mean, haven't we been saying all along that the mainstream media are backing Kerry? OK, then--were you LYING when you expressed that point of view?
I doubt the vets are going to suddenly say "We're sorry, we didn't mean it!" They're going to be portrayed as disgruntled losers by the very dems who so "honored" our servicemen in the Dem convention.
Grow up, folks. Look at the other news stories--they've got a link between one of those arrested in New York and a terrorist camp in Iraq. This is a war for our future--only the naive or stupid think the other side is going to respect our attacks anymore than we respect Michael Moore.
I'm surely as much, or more an optimist as many. But, if this is winning....I sure don't want to see losing.
FRegards,
Agreed. I was never so pissed at the simple. moron
FRegards,
How about we organize an email campaign against ALL of the news media. We can insist that we get truly fair and balanced news content or we will just switch it off altogether and rely on the internet for our news from now on.
I signed up here back in January of 2003. I literally went through the Iraq war between FR and Foxnews. I'll admit I have Foxnews on usually in the background but when I hear that Damn Scott Peterson music (or whatever that is from) I calmly grab my remote and hit the mute button.
I can just as well hit the power button altogether!
Try despicable. It sounds better spelled correctly. Spell checkers are friends.
Left and right of what?
Left and right of what?
I suggest we start advertising, especially in the swing states, against biased newspapers. We need to neutralize the power of newspaper endorsements and their relentless "news" stories bashing conservative candidates. All we need to do is remind voters of their biased record. Have them consider the source.
DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIBERAL KANSAS CITY STAR. Or do not trust the liberal KCStar.
I would also like to remind everyone of how hard these newspapers worked to get CFR passed so that voters' campaign speech is regulated while the media's is not.
Once people start thinking about media bias, they are going to be less influenced by it.
Hanity just had one of the Swift boat officers on.
Whatshername whowas incharge of thedukakis campaign nailed all the DNC talking points. Not on the boat(little boats in groups of at 3-7) Who financed you(a rich republican) 4 of five on kerrys boat support him(not mentioning the fact that 40 years ago he was called an a-hole)
It just nailed.
Also revealed FOUR PEOPLE fell in the water that day after a boat hit a mine. kERRY put in for the bronze star. There was no discussion of enemy fire.
It was susan estrich, she has makup on with a spatula.
The internet is all that's left, so you know they'll be coming for that next.
That's a start!
