John Kerry speaks Thursday to the Unity 2004 conference of minority journalists in Washington.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said Thursday he would have handled news of the al Qaeda attacks on New York and the Pentagon differently than President Bush did. "I would have excused myself from the classroom quickly," said Kerry.

You weren't the President.

I love W and think he's done a fine job but I've got questions about sticking around there too. I think Card or one of the Secret Service should have told him "We've gotta go."

Yes, Kerry would have offered the children some corn.

Bush did not have to jump up and panic because he has good people on his staff. Perhaps Kerry would have less qualified people that need his immediate supervision. (ala Jimmy Carter and his military operations)

Where was he going to go?

Answer me that? Didn't that decision have to be made?

In an unplanned emergency...with terrorists attacking...the security of the President should be a top priority.

So he's just gonna walk outside and take a stroll?

If you remember...even after tentative plans were made..the President even changed those.

Kerry would have had to jump up and panic. He would have incompetents on his staff. Albright for one.

Albright should try and get elected over in France or Germany. They'd love her over there. She can run their country into the ground for...oh...err..

Oh yes! They're countries have already been run into the ground!

I'd say into the hall to find out WTF?, just like he eventually did.

If Card said "We're under attack, I'll find out more info and get right back to you." I've got no issues at all. It certainly wouldn't have done any good to make a scene but I surely would have wanted to find out what was going on.

I'm with you on security, which is why I will never watch Peter Jennings again after his assinine and uninformed criticism of Bush not going directly to the White House instead of staying securely on AF One.

Not anywhere outside of the building. I'm sure it took at least that long to get the vehicles together and clear a path to the airfield to get on AF One.

Come to think of it, that might have been exactly what was happening.

I have some nice stills of Clinton's reaction to the traumatic event of "lots of Africans cheering for him in Ghana". I can't seem to post them from my MSN storage, they are fun to contrast with Bush being contemplative for a few minutes.

Here's the video

And sucked my thumb for 5-7 minutes until a SECURE TELECONFERENCE COULD BE SET UP with my national security team! MORON!!!!!

Bravo and that friends is the difference between an executive and a senator. Bush knew he had a good team around him and sometimes it's best to let them do their job. An executive (and especially the President!) can actually cause more problems by dashing into a situation before the enviroment and the options have been prepared for him.

Kerry doesn't have a clue what Incident Command System means. He has no idea how disaster management works, which is kind of skerry.

I have to admit that it is curious that Bush took seven minutes to excuse himself from the classroom. I can understand sitting there for a minute -- MAYBE for two, max -- but SEVEN?? If it took Bush that long to decide to leave, that's just strange. It's not like he was mulling over dozens of options or anything -- at that point, he had no information on what was going on beyond the fact that probable terrorists had flown planes into the twin towers! It is strange.

Of course, I don't know what Andrew Card whispered to Bush, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was something like: "A second plane has hit the WTC. We are setting up a conference call withh Rumsfeld, Rice, Cheney and Myers. We will be ready to leave in a few minutes. Just sit tight until we are all set."
