Is your computer a liberal? If so, get a new computer or reformat the hard-drive into conservative friendly. :)

Hmmmmm. I have no FR cookies on my computer at home. I have permanent FR cookies here. I got the same error at home but not here. Figured John fixed that before I came here, but guess it's a problem of FR not loading if you have no cookies...

Try another browser. Does it work?

If so, the problem is probably temp files that need to be deleted.

Get a Spyware nuker Program. It is worth the 30 bucks!

No it's not. I tried another browser, cleared its cache, cookies, and history--it showed the same "An error has been logged" message when I tried to load the FR homepage.

Individual FR threads are accessible. FR has had many of these kooky problems lately...

Just clear your cookies and cache, and you'll see the error message...

Has nothing to do with spyware.

Cookies would facilitate the automatic login to FR, but the lack of a cookie wouldn't prevent the page from loading. The fact that you successfully posted indicates that you logged in, and I suspect you now have a new (and fully functional) FR cookie.

Since other pages load, it isn't likely that your browser was damaged; likewise, the OS wouldn't have been harmed.

From what you say here, I would guess that there's some unusual latency for the connection with FR, and that it has nothing to do with you or your machine.

Once you solve your immediate problem with the aid of another FReeper, I suggest you download the FREE Mozilla browser and email program as well as the FREE Zone Alarm. You will be extremely pleased with the carefree ease these programs provide for web surfing. Absolutely NO pop-ups, an automatic junk mail dumper, tabbed browsing and some great browser skins. (My choice is one called SkyPilot.)

Mozilla can be found at www.mozilla.org

Get Zone Alarm at www.zonealarm.com. They have a free version that will keep you free from those annoying idiots attempting to spy on your computer's innards.

Get a Spyware nuker Program. It is worth the 30 bucks!

Better yet, Get Ad-aware by Lavasoft. It's free and it does a great job. It only gets rid of the cookies which contain spyware.

I just tried the procedure and replicated the error.

The problem is that FR looks for the login cookie and fails to find it. The solution is to get to another page and log in; this sets a new cookie, and all is well.

Try http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/login

2 things

Go to http://www.download.com, and get lavasoft adaware personal copy. Run it. That is the bestfree spyware killing software availabale.
second - forget Explorer, go to http://www.mozilla.com and download firefox. This browser blows Microsoft's out of the water.

Don't know the answer, but I developed the same problem this morning with my Firefox browser. Any attempt to connect to FR results in the following error; "Sorry, an error occurred. The error has been logged. Okay" I've cleared everything that is clearable in options, but nothing seems to correct the problem.

IE works fine.
