Missouri vote sparks action by gay activists

By Cheryl Wetzstein
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published August 5, 2004

This week's vote backing a traditional-marriage amendment in Missouri has galvanized homosexual rights groups, which already were gearing up to work "as hard as we can" to put Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry in the White House.

The decision to ask Missouri voters to define marriage as the union of a man and a woman "was motivated by politics, pure and simple," said Cheryl Jacques, president of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest homosexual rights advocacy group.

"This was part of an effort by President Bush to distract Missourians from the fact that the state has lost almost 80,000 jobs over the past 3½ years," she said, adding that the state's constitution "is now a tool for discrimination."

However, Ms. Jacques was heartened by yesterday's ruling from a Washington state superior court judge who said same-sex couples have a right to "marry" under the state constitution. The decision, which has been stayed until the state Supreme Court can consider the case, shows "there's no reason to deny any family the same rights and responsibilities as others," Ms. Jacques said.

LMAO! I guess half of the voters in St. Louis County are bigoted right wing evangelist homophobes. All those liberal Democrats who voted for Amendment 2 couldn't really stick it to the gay lobby. Naaaaahhhhhhhhh. Let the heterophobes live in their own dream world...

I thought Kerry would leave that issue for the states to decide. Oh, he was for the states rights before he was against states rights...

Homosexual activists, Do you know what this guy believes?

Frfom further on in the article:

"We need to find out why so many more people than expected turned out to vote," Seth Kilbourn, national field director for the Human Rights Campaign, told www.365gay.com, an online news magazine. "Was it because of the amendment or because of the primary for governor?"

Well, Mr. Kilbourn, you lose either way. If it's because Republicans are mad at your attempt to pervert the institution of marriage, then, according to the article, they mobilized against your agenda despite no other real reason to vote. And if the RATS came out to vote in their primary, even your so-called "party of inclusion" doesn't agree with your agenda.

So you lose either way.

That's right, sweetie---do your best to equate Kerry with gay marriage.

You go girl!

Let them make this election about gay marriage because half the Democrats don't agree with it.

The amendment lost in St. Louis County by a 3,500 vote margin. It won big every where else in the state.

I was talking about a Superior Court Judge in Washington State.

Missouri shows that even Democrats don't want gay marriage, while the judge in Washington State shows that democracy is meaningless to the left.

Of course. Liberals are such hypocrites. They say a constititional amendment isn't needed to protect marriage and lo and behold an activist judge trumps them by striking down a law to protect marriage. The voters of MO didn't buy into their lie.

Its all President Bush's fault Missourians are a bunch of backwoods country rednecks. Good, let them keep insulting the folks in flyover country. Its a winning political strategery that will pay the Democrats AND heterophobe friends big dividends in November.

No, Cheryl, it was motivated by the actions of the Supreme Judicial Court of YOUR state (and unfortunately mine) of MA, which YOU helped bring about, precluding MY chances to vote on the matter. Missouri was just out of the gate faster than our Democrate controlled Legislature who were so scared of YOU and your homosexual friends that they denied MA citizens the right to vote on the matter before the Court, again peopled sympathetic to your friends, made the decision for us.

That and Gavin Newsom's issuance of gay marriage licenses in California stirred up a hornet's nest. Its made people really fed up. I hope the Left is stupid enough to get their activist judges to keep forcing it on the country. They want a culture war, they'll get one they're bound to lose badly.
