"Now I understand why Max Cleland has such an affinity for Lurch."

I don't like Cleland's politics and I am glad he is out of office. However, in his case he is a genuine combat vet that served honorably and didn't turn on his country as Kerry did. Unfortunately, one's politics often overrides ones honor - I think that is Cleland's problem.

There is no need for proof. Who these people are, and what they are saying, is proof enough. This is not a court of law. Americans can smell the truth (and lies), and this being out in the public domain will leaves its mark.

This will not affect those that would vote for Kim Jung Il, if he had a "d" after his name. It will make a difference to some voters, and they will make a difference in this election.

This is just one of a thousand papercuts, and lurch is REALLY bleeding this time.

It does not matter. America is slowly coming to understand the dims, and their true objectives.

By October, they will have NOT ONE person (including Hillary) who would sacrifice their career to run. lurch is their man, and they are STUCK with him... like it or not (for the dims).

Does anybody really think the Democrats will keep a candidate 20 - 25 points down with no chance to win?

They can't do anything about him now can they? If he drops out, then would not Edwards be the candidate?

But the real question is why the DNC let this guy get this far??? They knew this stuff was out there.

This is very compelling, and I'm glad that it was posted here because the Human Events website has been crashing my browser all day. But how I wish that the authors had had a decent editor before they rushed into print! This is really very bad writing. It would be more compelling to more people if it had been cleaned up so readers wouldn't have to fight their way through the jungle of words.

"These sound like pretty severe accusations if true. Any Vets care to comment?"

They already did - in the article.

As a former Marine, I can confirm that their disgust and contempt for Kerry is typical for what we call "sh*tbirds". Every unit has them, we call them the 10% (ie. every unit has a few bad apples).

I can also assure you that Vets in any branch would only step forward with such a harsh criticism of Kerry out of a sense of duty and honor. We prefer to handle these kind of antics "in-house" to avoid embarassing our unit - which is like a family to us.

These vets aren't partisan - they're stepping up to set the record straight b/c Kerry seeks to become CINC. To them, thats an abomination, whether he's a Dem or Republican carries little weight with them.

---Kerry has brought a shameful amount of scorn and potential dishonor on his unit and his fellow squids - I served in VN and am also offended by this lout's words!---

Exactly my thoughts. In the passage below Kerry denigrates the two enlisted men with him on his first "mission".

---It seemed stupid. My gunner didn’t know where the people were when he first started firing. The M-16 bullets had kicked up the sand way to the right of them as he sprayed the beach, slowly walking the line of fire over to where the men had been leaping for cover. I had been shouting directions and trying to unjam my gun. The third crewman was locked in a personal struggle with the engine, trying to start it. I just shook my head and said, ‘Jesus Christ.’ It made me wonder if a year of training was worth anything.”---

My youngest son and I just finished reading this and he was amazed that where his dad served six months each were mentioned here (An Thoi & Cat Lo/Vung Tau). I've never talked a lot about anything, other than names, etc to people. I never knew Hanoi John was only at An Thoi for a week!!

He wasn't in combat. He was a REMF typist looking for a war souvenir.

Since it appears the national press has been complicit in creating Kerrys ficticious Biography, don't you think it is time that a law is passed where the press can be sued for Mal Practice and forbidden ( disbarred) from the industry, Heavily fined, or possibly jailed for negligence, incompetence or fraud?

I did 20 years in the military including a year in Vietnam. I have never known of anybody receiving a purple heart for any wound that didn't require some hospitalization. In my opinion, any "walking wounded" injury does not rise to the level of being awarded anything more than a bandaid.
I would be very interested to find out how many PH's or Bronze and Silver Stars were awarded to the Swiftboat guys that are speaking out about Kerry's exploits. That would shed some light on the issue.
