Ellie Nesler's Son Surrenders To Authorities

TUOLUMNE COUNTY, Calif. -- Authorities in Tuolumne County say the 22-year-old son of the so-called "vigilante mother" has turned himself in to authorities. He was wanted in connection with the death of a man on July 25.

Investigators say that on July 25, about an hour after William Nesler III finished completing a 30-day sentence for beating a man, he attacked the same man again.

David Davis, 45, later died from his injuries suffered in the attack.

Nesler is the son of Ellie Nesler. She was convicted of manslaughter in the courtroom shooting of Daniel Driver in 1993. Driver had been accused of molesting her son.

Driver was being tried for molesting a number of boys, including William. During a court recess, Nesler pulled a gun from her purse and shot driver in the head five times.

The state Supreme Court threw out part of Ellie Nesler's conviction in 1997. Her story was made into a television movie. She is now serving time in prison on unrelated drug charges.

Anita Gilles says she is a friend and neighbor of William Nesler.

"I don't think anybody would be discussing anything if it wasn't for the fact that it is Willie Nesler. And I think it is his last name that has brought people up here to talk about it," Gilles said.

Gilles describes William as a generous person who was trying to turn his life around, despite having been arrested 17 times for various charges, including carrying concealed weapons.

"He has been through a lot. (He) went to prison of course. He has been there. I think if he would have got the counseling that he needed there. and got rehabilitation like he needed to be there, that things might have been different when he got out," Gilles said.

Sheriff's department officials say the motive for the alleged murder may have been a property dispute. Davis was living on Nesler's property.

This story is such a nightmare. Reminds me of the tragic story of the young man who was kidnapped, then found. He died in a motorcycle crash but his younger brother is in prison for the murder of the tourists in our national park.

" Nesler pulled a gun from her purse and shot Driver in the head five times."

I would rule this a bad case of suicide.

We never get the whole truth from the media. Back then she was an avenging angel. Her son's abuser was being set free, or so the press reported, she shot the SOB. It now appears there were a lot of other issues. I am so tired of being lied to by the darned press. I no longer read the papers and sheild myself from the garbage in garbage out bunch out there.

Though the mother did what needed doing, I'd like to know what was behind the Driver thing. Sounds like the whole bunch were/are messed up and are where they belong.

Drugs and poor parenting played a huge role in both Ellie and Willie Nesler's problems. Also, a total welfare mentality that it is always someone else's fault. (We live near these guys.)

Do you recall the name of the boy involved in that case? I was trying to remember and am drawing a blank.

Steven Stayner was the kidnap victim who escaped after seven years or so. His brother Carey Stayner killed Carole Sund, her daughter and a family friend in the National Park, then he beheaded one of the naturalists who lived on park grounds.

Thanks for the info. I went to the Court TV web site and read again about the case. I didn't know that the guy who did the kidnapping of Steven and another little boy named Timmy only got 7 years in prison. He served 5 years and was released. At age 70 and in poor health he tried to arrange for the kidnapping of another child and was caught. It makes me sick that he did so little time for such an awful crime.

It says a lot about our judicial system, and none of it's good.

It's not only punishment, it's mean to protect society and it fails miserably.
